United Kingdom HMV Packing

Hi All

I usually get my HMV Steelbook's in-store, but decided to order The Green Hornet on-line as its a few quid cheaper.

What's with the packing?? Solid Cardboard box, but the steelbook just floats around inside. Nothing securing it down.

There are a couple of scratches on it, but nothing too bad so will keep it. Is this how they usually send them out as I have several more on pre-order??

Cheers

Yep, I think that's how they normally send them.

All my order have come like that.

Ive ordered 2 on line

Scott pilgrim came with a scratch on the spine, perfect straight deep line, clearly a knife cut were an employee as open the box they all came in.

Expendables, which came with a split down the spine, had about of inch left conecting the front and back cover before it was in 2 pieces, but they exchanged it and the next one was perfect.

Ive got a mate whos ordered 6 or so though all perfect!

I've always found them to be ok to be honest. As long as they are in plastic in the box they seem to be fine. Boxes seem pretty strong and there's not a tendancy for the postie to try and bend them up either I find.

Reckon it's better and less prone to dents than a standard jiffybag.

They're just fine for normal amaray cases. Anything else..you're looking for trouble.

I really like Play.com packages as they are really sturdy and I've never had any issues with them.

I always order from hmv. Never once have a problem. Everything turns up mint condition. Must have about 20 or so steelbooks from there...

If they are sealed there shouldn't be a problem, if you need to return the Steelbook send it recorded delivery and they will refund the postage charge if you contact them.

Unfortunately I think they might have moved their telephone lines overseas (like Play) as the last person I spoke with didn't understand what I was talking about and couldn't grasp the conversation so I gave up.

I got a DVD set in the other day in the card packaging, was surprised to see the entire back of the box covered by an ad for the 4th Pirates film...

Yeah, I've decided to return it...to be honest it didn't look new at all.

Never noticed some scratches and dents. Looks like someone took a little knife to remove the cellophane first time arround.

Just come with the card sleeve thing on the steelbook with no cellophane. The Cardboard box was solid to be fair, there was just no padding inside to keep it still.

The Green Hornet I purchased from HMV was wrapped, looks like it's been a returned copy and they have sent it back out to you

Out of HMV, amazon and play, I much prefer HMV's packaging. I rarely have any problems with them. I've only ever had a minor Steelbook dent and a few negligible creases on Slipcovers, whereas with the jiffys from amazon and play I've found I'm much more likely to find damage. HMV are also better for preorders for me.

To be honest it seems you're always taking a risk when you get blus delivered. But usually that's down to the couldn't-give-a-flying-squirrel attitude of the Royal Mail.

I been very pleased with the recent packages for boxsets from HMV as they've been in one of those secure wrap boxes. It's the single Amaray's with slips that make me worry though. Indigiostarfish is a no-go because they use Jiffybags and Amazon have those flat-packs which are 50/50 on whether you get a crushed spine.

I'm sure if the picky amongst us keep sending back damaged goods and leaving feedback they'll improve their packaging.

I ordered the Best of Blu-ray boxset the other week from Amazon and both times the slipbox was perfect. Unfortunately the Gladiator disc was damaged and every Amaray had a knife cut diagonally across each Amaray. So it wasn't exactly Amazon's fault but as always their returns policy is 2nd to none.

I'm not trusting anyone with the Star Wars set though I'll be picking that up in-store with one hand and a magnifying glass in the other....

the packaging IS awful but of all the item's I've had from them, I've yet to require a return so looks like they get away with it most of the time

I don't think any particular company's packaging is best, none of them are perfect. For me, Amazon is the best. If some do come damaged, you can always rely on their excellent customer service.

With HMV's packaging, you assume it's awful due to the amount of free space inside, however, it surprisingly manages to protect most Blus!

I've been ordering online from HMV for a few years, and I order around 90% of my Blus from them, this includes many Steels! I have hardly ever experienced any problems with them. The only Steel I have received damaged was True Grit, however, it was quite apparent that the damage had happened to the Steel before it was packed up.

Have had the odd scuffed or torn slip, but that's about it, nearly always mint! Great service!

I have bought from Indigo Starfish dozens of times via Amzon.co.uk, I have never had any problems with any thing, steelbooks included. They normally send items in jiffy bags but they are lined with bubble wrap and nothing has ever arrived broken.

In my experience they tend to have my item to me within 2 days of odering which is a bit faster than Amazon. Just my experince however.

As for HMV, I have had a few CDs cases that have been scratched or even cracked. I normally just leave it but if it is bad enough I will take it to my nearest HMV and they replace it no questions asked as long as you have the receipt/invoice. The boxes from HMV do tend to be quite strong and the prices online are better by a large margin. I saw a CD that was a deluxe remastered edition for £3.99 online but when I went into the store the same CD was £15.99.

I've also had 3 items not arrive. The first time this has ever happend after many years of shopping online. HMV did have the replacement out to me in 3 days, I had to wait 14 days before I could request a replacement.

Blu-rays have a much better box in my opinion I've never had anything but pristine Blu-ray cases from HMV and Amazon. I don't know if this is due to the size or the quality of the cases. I have ordered many Triple Play edition Blu-rays online and even with those that have slip cases have all arrived perfect.

I think that is better luck than judgement. I live in Jersey and there have been quite a few news stories recently about Jersey Post including cut backs, prices on postage going up, job losses et cetera.

They have been filming at the sorting office, when you see the way they sort the mail I am not surprised parcels get damaged during transit!

They stand in front of a large collection of mail grabbing a bit at a time, there are sorting bins with location labels on and the mail is tosses or thrown into these bins for a distance of about 3 meters

I've not had a chance to watch the YT clip yet as I am at work, however, as someone who used to work for Royal Mail for a short period of time, the above description is exactly what a large portion of my job entailed. There were even times when we would end up throwing 100 or so Play/Amazon packages (they'd all arrive on the conveyor belt at the same time) into the "bin" and then 10 minutes later throw what appeared to be a 15KG+ toolbox or similar on top of it. It is ridiculous, the attitude is very cavalier.
