United Kingdom How do you organise your collection?

Ok I have a modest collection compared to most on here and most of my blus approx 1400 and dvds approx 200 are horror. i'd say 70% horror to 30% non horror so I have all horror together and all non horror together but then I have some specialist stuff like film noir that I like to keep sepearate or my steven segals

Anyway I pretty much have everything after the main genre so say "horror" organised via label so Arrow, Synapse, WB , shout etc the problem is some of those labels like kino or warner, arrow are multiple genres so how best to keep them organised ?

All labels together regardless of genre or mix and match?

what do you all do ?

I have all my Criterions sorted by spine number with box sets and digital packs on a separate shelf, My Arrows alphabetically with steelbooks again on a separate shelf with my regular steelbooks, MoC again by spine number but funny enough the MoC steelbooks are on the shelf with MoC Amarays
Everything else is just stacked in no particular order on my bottom shelf.
It’s a bit messy but I know exactly where everything is

Old picture but you get the idea

I don't have anything compared to most here but I just put everything in alphabetically. Box sets are separate.

It might not look the neatest but if I want to find a specific film there is no better way for me.

1400 blu's modest? Guess I have a very modest collection then.

Anyway, I've ordered my collection (dvd + blu-ray) on Director/year of release.

By studio and alphabetically. In theory, most are in heaps on the floor at the moment

I sort by Label. Powerhouse, arrow, 88 films, Criterion, Masters of cinema, BFI, then the rest. All are alphabetical within their own sections.

By studio and then I try and go by release order of each BD. Some codes are easy to work out, but if I can't I'll go alphabetically. Original Disney Classics are in their numbered order.

Alphabetical, with sequels after the first in the series (i.e. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" falls into its alphabetical slot, with "Dawn" and "War" directly after). Criterion, Arrow, Plain Archive and TV series separate. Also, where I have a tonne of movies by one director (Cohen Brothers, Tarantino etc), I have them listed chronologically, in the alphabet corresponding with the Directors name (i.e. all my Cohen Brothers are between "Cocoon" and "Confessions", and in order from "Raising Arizona" (no "Blood Simple" yet) to "Hail, Caesar!")

Genre > Decade > Spine Colour

Organizing by decade gives me the freedom to swap titles around so that I can have complementary spine colours.

I have chronologically ordered Dario Argento, Sergio Leone, Tarantino, Star Wars, James Bond and Harry Potter (for my wife) collections. Everything else is alphabetical except for sequels which are chronologically placed after the original films. Numbered films (ie, 2001 or 28 Days Later) precede titles with the letter A.

I do alphabetical, with films, documentaries and TV shows mixed together, and I have a separate (but very small) section for music stuff.

I was going to split documentaries and TV shows off but a couple of factors got them mixed in together, namely:

Quote:
1. I didn't feel that This is England (feature film) and the This is England TV shows should be split up.

2. Some documentaries are legitimate features (Amy) and others are kind of a blend of the two (The Arbor).
I have split my Doctor Who stuff off separately but that's mainly because I have a little TARDIS box that they all fit in to, and I plan to stick all the DVDs with the Blus when I have more space (i.e. move house one day) and manage to complete the collection.
