Default Spiders HT

Hi everyone,

so far i don't have a really HT. Just a nice [imo] system setup in my living room.
Since we [my wife and me] moved last year into a house i have the HT room plans for the basement on the drawing board. It will be not just a only HT room but pretty close. Have to share the room around a fireplace, a bar and a pool table. Pretty sure i will ask couple questons here and show my progress in pictures.

So long/ Blu rocks [<- this smilie should be blu]

Post Living room gets upgrade

Since the money is short we started to work on the living room first. Just finished painting. Got away from the white walls. Took the wires for the rear and back channels of the walls. It will all go in wall. Also took the front channels of the stands and put them on the wall. Have to hide them wires too.

Hope i get some pictures up soon.

Want to run the sub woofer cable in wall. Which type of wire would you recommend for it? Probably shielded, right? None of the surround channel wire runs will exceed 35'. So i think i go with 16gauge. May be 14 but that will be a money question.

So like I said will make sure I get some updates done soon.
Just love the see other theater setups on this page and get inspirations.

Looks Very,Very Nice,Spider.
Love the System and the Set-Up.

Great TV with an Excellent Picture.Even the ScreenShot of Star Wars Episode One,I saw in your Gallery Pics looked good to be a Standard DVD.
And I know that Blu-Ray must look Amazing with the TV you have.

Nice choice in the Onkyo AV Receiver.
A Very Popular Choice among the Forum Members. It provides a Good,Solid Foundation for your Home Theater to Be Built Around.

And,I Have to Give,Much Respect for the Polk Speaker/Sub System.
Great Choice that Provides Great Sound for Movies and Music.

Also having a full 7.1 Channel System is another Positive. You can take advantage of the ever growing number of Blu-Rays being made in 7-Channel Surround Sound.

I did like the Stands you had for the Front Speakers, but read where you placed them on the walls.
Having the Fronts and the Four Surrounds on the Wall will give you a discreet look with outstanding performance sonically.

And you chose a Polk Speaker Set with the Polymer Drivers and Tweeter.
So they have a smooth sound and can handle some power sent to them from the Onkyo.

And the Extra Clean Look you have being improved upon by running the speaker wires in the walls.

Its an Outstanding Accomplishment you have put together.
Having your Living Room Sport a Quality Home Theater System without it overpowering the Room is worthy of Sincere Congratulations.

And it does look Extremely Comfortable where you can relax and take in a Movie. Then add that sub behind the Couch to Provide the Bass you hear and feel is a Great accomplishment.

But I really look forward to the pics when you have the projects in front of you completed. Its already a Great System and Set-Up.But after painting, running the wires in-wall,and moving the sub along with wall mounting the Front Speakers. It will be an Even more Amazing System.

Congratulations and Welcome.

Thanks allot talstarone,

I hope I can start soon. Still researching some materials and put my BOM together. But progress pictures should be up soon.

The TV is nice. DVD looks fantastic. Just re discovered that the over day by renting the DVD of Public Enemy [local Blockbuster has not enough BD copies].

But I all over Blu .

One thing I would like to change. Is it possible to splitt the HDMI signal [Y-Adapter?] from my PS3 and bypass the Onkyo? Say: PS3 - Picture -> TV, PS3 - Sound -> Onkyo. I think the picture looks way better with out the AV receiver in between. Just missing out on the lossless sound then. Is there a solution for it?

But right now no big deal. Down to 3 Stereo anyway for now

I wont say that this is 100% accurate since I dont have the same TV,PS3,or Onkyo AVR.But,yes, there is a way to Bypass That.

So if you have both a HDMI output and a Component Video output on the PS3 it may be Possible.

You would send the picture to your TV by the Component Video Output(which is actually 3 cables and jacks on each end).
Then you can use the HDMI Output on your PS3 to hook up directly to your Onkyo AVR.

If you do have multiple outputs on the PS3 its possible. You may have to change some settings on the PS3,TV,and Onkyo AVR.
But Component Video Cables can carry a HD Video Signal.

But,like I mentioned previously,I cant guarantee anything since I dont own them and have looked at all the connections and read all the manuals.
But that is how my system is Hooked up.

My Blu-Ray Player has its HDMI Output sent to my Yamaha AVR for Dolby TRUE HD and DTS-HD Loseless Surround Settings.
Then I have the Component Video Connections running from my Blu-Ray Player to my Projector(and it produces a HD Image) and also allows me to use the Yamaha AVR to reproduce sound Only.

As I have NO cables of any type going from my AVR to my Projector.
But someone who owns a PS3 would have a Better Understanding if it is Possible.

I mentioned this in your gallery but I'll do it again on here. It looks like your ps3 is cramped in there and there is no breathing room with the covered back side. You said your 40gb ps3 died and I wonder if it was because of all the heat build up in that cramped spot. I'd find a different spot if this is the case.

The back is open. I also have a fairly big fan[3 speed manual] right next to the PS3, which gives a good draft through the rack. The internal fan of the PS3 was maybe twice in full rpm cycle. Everything stays nice and cool. Since I have the new one I never heard the fan to be on full duty.

But it was warranty so i got my money back and a new one.

Default Finally starte

Now I'm in the middle of re routing the wires through the walls and ceiling. Got myself some nice in ceiling speakers. The 7.2 Wall Plate is in place(just using 7.1) Still to come a 2.0 wall plate for Zone2 (kitchen in my case). Running all wires in my attic. So far i had now problems but still ways to go.

Default Spider is done ...

... for now

Got the pics up finally. Still working on the write up in the gallery. It was a fun project which dragged for months but family and job are always priority.
I like the result and my wife is happy about the fact that no wires a visible.

Ways to go...

**Note: Can't wait to open my Christmas present(Alien - Anthology). All four movies in HD. Waiting for it since ... ...i'm sorry got to go...

Default for now... 2 years later

for now... 2 years later, almost...

Did some changes to my living room again. Haha... I will never get to my basement theater.
But for now we are enjoying the new look of our front stage. The equipment shelf is still in production and some paint work still needs to be done. I will updated the pictures as I go along.

The TV seems like it's new since it's mounted on the wall. But I recently bought the Disney-WOW BD calibration and I must say it helped a lot. Looks way better already.

The two front speakers are also new. They have a little bit more punch. The center needs an upgrade. Seems a little weak next to the Polk T15s.

Thanks for reading so far

BluRulz

...to be continued
