I saw this at JB, didn't note the region (at least what the cover said), I am a little concerned by the running time though. The theatrical version should be 142 minutes and the Director's Cut (which France has on an English friendly BD that I own) is 152 Minutes. This states 139 Minutes, which I guess if they have used the running time from the DVD is most likely the 4% PAL speedup.
I note it also states there are extras (over an hours worth), I would be interested to learn what they are? |

Is there a way to scan the disc to make sure? If so, let me know and I'll scan it up.

There is only 1 bonus feature. It's 78 minutes of behind the scenes footage.
That's it. I'd seen it before. It's on the DVD releases. First 2 minutes have been the back of the director's head whilst talking on the phone. It's nothing essential. Basically just someone standing around with a camera filming the crew whilst the film is being made. Nothing else though. No additional interviews; no commentaries; no deleted or alternate scenes. Glad it was only $13. Also, if you just click on Play Movie, it'll automatically play with an English dubbed soundtrack which sounds ridiculous (don't they always?). You'll need to go into setup first and select the French track, and keep subtitles on. Last edited by Russ103; 07-28-2011 at 03:29 AM. |

The only software I've come across which will show region coding (and it's not 100% effective) is AnyDVD HD. Incidentally, you also seem to need AnyDVD HD to make BDInfo to measure bit rates.

![]() ![]() Another example is Malick's "The New World". There are two versions that were shown to cinema audiences: critics generally favour the 150 min "Film Festival" cut that was put together so the film could qualify for the awards season, and Malick says he prefers the 135 min cut that he then produced for cinema distribution. So what do we get on Bu-ray? A 172 min "Extended" cut, that seems to have been specifically compiled for the Blu-ray release. But there's no video and only a little audio in the other two cuts that isn't also in the Extended cut, so it would have cost them very little in disc space to branch the thing and let us make our own choice which version to watch. It's not like they're going to release the other cuts separately, so if it really is about "watch what you want, when you want", then why not give us the options? |

At least there is an English-friendly option on Blu-ray for the longer cut--the French Blu-ray.
Really so many films don't even have the option of multiple versions anywhere in the world that I don't see what the huge fuss is about. I mean, it's kind of disappointing, but in the grand scheme of things you do have English-friendly options for both cuts of the film. |

The French BD is, yes. But as with DVD, it's likely that fans of this film will need to import and/or go region-free--I was merely pointing out that the different version Blu-ray releases exist, unlike so many films where we only get one version on Blu-ray worldwide.
