Default Children of The Corn Aug or now?

Hey I spotted The Children of The Corn Blu-Ray at The Best Buy in Quincy IL. I was surprised to see it there as its not sopposed to be out untill Aug.But I guess The Best Buy in Quincy did not get the memo. No I did not get it.Sorry to say.Did not have mutch money on me when I was in there. Best Buy wanted $24.95 for it and I only had $20.00 on me. Well now I have been paid and I'm planing on running back over there and getting it.That is if there not sold out by now?

It's a Best Buy exclusive until August. The full report, courtesy of High Def Disc News:

Quote:
Anchor Bay (A Starz Company) has informed us as of yesterday that they have plans to release the “Children of the Corn” Blu-ray Disc EXCLUSIVELY (for roughly a 2 month period) at retail giant Best Buy starting on June 30th, 2009. The title will not be available elsewhere, such as Amazon until August 25th, 2009. We are under an embargo and can’t bring you the review until the Best Buy street date. So, expect our review next week! If you don’t care to wait a few months, as I mentioned earlier the title is going to be available at other retailers on 8/25 such as Amazon.com where there is already a PRE-ORDER listing with a $18.49 price tag. Also, please note that this is only going to be released at physical Best Buy retail stores and will not be available to order on their website until August 25th.

Yeah I also notised a lot of movies was on sale today.Gush if I had tons of money on me I would of walked out of there with a ton of movies.
Dont know why I go into these stores when I hardly have any cash on me?Everytime I do thats when I see plenty of goodies that I want.

Strange choice of a title to have exclusive via Best Buy like that.

Yeah, why delay people from buying it at other retailers or online? It's a 25 year old catalog title...

I feel bad for Anchor Bay since they used to have so many interesting catalog titles that are now with other distributors like Blue Underground.

Hopefully Best Buy has it priced decently, I haven't seen Children of Corn since I was a kid, I was planning on seeing it again on BLU.

Best Buy.com website states a Aug 25th release date yet if you do a in stock store check most stores in my area say they have it in stock either on the shelf or ready to sale on their date of the 30th.

although the Best Buy site has the price listed at 24.99 so looks like they aren't doing the cheaper pre-order price at this time. It coudl change around the 30th however. You never know with Best Buy.

I wonder if there will be any exclusives with this release at BB (other than 2 months earlier)?

Might be a great catalog title, especially since it's a 25th anniversary edition.

There don't appear to be any BB exclusives on the disc.

Does anyone know whether this exclusive release applies to Canadian Best Buy locations as well?

I wish Anchor Bay would bring back Willam Lustig, he knew how to do quality reissues and knew his stuff,Anchor Bay used to have awesome releases back in the day!

Quick thoughts - Transfer looks pretty good, about what I expected. Nice HD job by Anchor Bay, pretty film-like if you ask me. Some decent extras, as well.

Best release this film has ever seen by far on home video.

Fangoria has their review up:

Why?

Bill Lustig doesn't need to go back, he created Blue Underground and brought a ton of titles with him from Anchor Bay (a lot of the Argento and Fulci stuff). They are releasing quality films, and you should think of BU as the new Anchor Bay.

Plus, the horror titles that Anchor Bay still has the rights to and have released on blu have been pretty darn good in the quality department.

Hellraiser
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Evil Dead 2
Halloween
Children of the Corn
Masters of Horror

Okay did'nt know that, but Anchor Bay has been to commercial lately(LOTS OF DIRECT TO VIDEO MOVIES) and not the great reissue king it once was when Lustig helped run the company. Yes they do still have some great catalog titles like Halloween,Dawn/Day of the Dead,Creepshow 2,Heathers,Children of the Corn, and Hellraiser, but a lot of the good stuff is history like the Studio Canal/Fox/Disney licenced films, most of it now commanding a premium on sites like Ebay!

Usually I grab a copy of their little booklet of upcoming movie releases, and for the June issue they had this title released on June 30th.

I checked their website and it's up for pre-order as others stated. I was going to pick it up if it's available, but NOT for $24.99.

I just checked online to see if it's in stock and it is.

I might check it out when I get off from work to see if it's true.

Mr.White, yeah I agree that Anchor Bay ruled back in the day. But now that Bill Lustig is gone, Blue Underground has taken their place. AB only has the rights to a handful of cool horror films now, so it's nothing like it once was.

Thank goodness Blue Underground has started releasing blu-rays this year. Fulci's New York Ripper comes out in 2 months, and it's rumored that Maniac is coming early next year.
