Default Should the original characters and cast of Star Wars return?

Well, it is now well and confirmed for a few days now, we will have a sequel trilogy to episodes IV-VI of Star Wars, also known as "The Original Trilogy".

One matter seems to be discussed fairly often, but I have not seen any actual poll about it, relating to the original characters and cast: Should they be back, and if yes, how much?

Here it is then, the poll.

Personally, Star Wars was always about the interactions of Luke, Leia and Han (Chewie, C3PO and R2-D2 as well of course) so I would love to see them come back front and center ... but probably also pass the torch to a younger generation during this trilogy.

So .. front and center with original cast for me (make up and digital FX can do marvels to rejuvenate a person, but the actors might have to do some training too, nothing impossible in any case), but then fade to the background with the next movies.

Honestly, considering Mark Hamill and Carries Fisher had aged quite badly and Harrison Ford in the past has said he wouldn't want to play Han Solo again I wouldn't want them to come back.

I say the films should either be about their heirs or recast the parts, I know that wouldn't go down well with many, but even bringing back the original cast wouldn't necessarily recreate the same magic of the Original Trilogy. I think it'd be better to have new actors to make it feel fresh and not something that is trying to be from a time gone by in cinema history.

Maybe Hamill could have a cameo or something, but nothing major.

I'd like them to come back, but only have cameo roles in each i.e. Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek 2009. It wasn't a very small role, but it wasn't big either. Just right - and that's how big I want their parts to be in the ST.

Mark Hamill I say yes, in fact I don't see him saying no at this point. As for the others, any of them that want bring em on, but do it as cameos or like mentioned in the back ground. Luke should be the next Obi Wan type character, Leia can be like Shmi in Clones, have her there just to die off maybe use that as a plot point. Han can be dead by this time, died a heroic death saving his wife. Chewbacca, and the Droids they can be back. Lando...I am not so sure there maybe a cameo.

Mark hamill could come back as like a yoda replacement. He kind of looks like yoda these days anyways.

What about background or side characters like Wedge, any of the Imperials that might have survived, Boba Fett even?

I would love more than anything to see all the original actors return to their roles, but sparingly. I would just die to see the older Hamill return as the Jedi master Luke.

I really think only Luke and Leia have to come back.

Although it would be fun to see Leia's kids using the Jedi Mind Trick on their old man.

Hasnt mark hammil become a better actor over the years due to all that voice acting? Im not sure about Carrie Fisher but I wouldnt be crazy about Harrison Ford returning because I dont think he could act like Han Solo anymore, just as he wasnt able to act like Indiana Jones in Crystal Skull.

I see all the old actors in small roles - like senator/council type scenes.

No. I hate that crap, where the audience is expected to go "oh look, there's the thing from the other movie". Wipe the slate clean. "A long time ago in a galaxy far away" doesn't exactly restrict your creative options.

I voted original characters back front and center but after seeing those photos I have to change my mind. If the timeline fits they should have a role but not front center.

Jeez what's with all old and fat cracks people? All Disney's gotta do is hire some nutritionist's, personal trainer's, & top of the line make up artist's and TADA! 20 years younger they will look. Anyway I would love to see Hamill reprise Skywalker as an older wiser Jedi Master & pass the tourch but I hope they go all out to find the perfect cast to pass it onto.

Carrie Fisher only if they need Jabba the Hutt. Otherwise just Luke in an Obi-Wan role. No Jedi twins

I would really like to seem them make appearances or have supporting roles, but I can also see the possibility for disaster with that idea. Front and center is out of the question.

Just like Prometheus with Shaw birthing a squid. Jabba impregnated Slave Leiah and gave birth to old Carrie Fisher.

Considering Disney was able to bring back young Jeff Bridges for Tron legacy why not do the same for Star Wars. After all we really only need the actors voice and Mark Hamill already does voice acting for a living.
