But then you won't have the New Line titles like Hairspray and Rush Hour 3 exclusive to Blu first, which is kind of a good thing really. Once HD_DVD has gone down the pan, then region free.

I think they should do to region coding when they did with the copy protection (AACS) they made it updatable, to prevent copying, I think the studio's should have the region code disable after a year this way they can maintain, they're safety of theater/video releases and the customer can move to another counter without having to buy new movies (a new player will be required if the customer want to buy the latest releases tho)

Hi guys,

I remember reading something about region coding on http://www.blu-crew.com/blu-tech.html

Another legacy feature that Blu-ray Disc supports but has been dropped by HD DVD is the Region Code. The Region Code for Blu-ray Disc is much improved over DVD with fewer regions and a rule where titles must become region free after a year of release. Region Code is needed by studios to protect the theatrical release income in other regions from sales of imported discs.

What do you guys think? If it's true, sounds like great news and a better region code implementation than DVD.
