Default Classic musical films.

hey guys,

I don't know how to start this thread. But i am a Leo, born in Friday august the 13th on a plane, on the way to australia. anyways, I grew up during the Michael Jackson hype, during the dirty dancing.

one of the films i definitely want to have on BD is the michael jackson's MOONWALKER film. I know the guy is weird, and i know he is a dumbass, but we are talking about an artist, who became an icon back in the days. the world loved him. also there are other films that i know i can't remember and i am trying to. let me know if you have any pop/musical films released during the 80's that you wish to see on BD.

this post is just to revive the memory of the 80's. so try to travel back in time, and enjoy.

Limiting this to the 80's? Well, some of these hit around the mark if not on:

I can't think of a single musical film I'd like to see again from the 80's. I prefer not to remember them.

However , prior to that I can think of several.

Fiddler on the Roof
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Paint your Wagon
Oklahoma

etc. etc.

"Magic Flute" was from 1975, and one of the main reasons I'm hoping Criterion can get off the stick.

Meanwhile, however, sit back and wait for Warner's "That's Entertainment, Pt. 1" on Blu, and get a sampling of some REAL musical goodness.
(And yeah, Pt. 2 also, but that one's more of a glorified TV special, and doesn't have the "backlot reunion" near-death-of-MGM slice of history that gave Pt. 1 such goosebumps.)

Does Spinal Tap count? It has a few catchy numbers.

I can't think of any 80's musicals I would want... but lots of older musicals would be great on Blu-ray.

West Side Story (65mm)
Sound of Music (65mm)
Oklahoma! (65mm and 30fps!)
Oliver! (only 35mm unfortunately)
Hello, Dolly (65mm)
The Wizard of Oz (35mm full frame)
My Fair Lady (65mm)
Grease (35mm)

... etc.

Also, I like the new gen of musicals, like Hairspray (was AWESOME!) and Rent.

I just watched Viva Las Vegas and it is very nice. A fun film, and the PQ is outstanding for its age.

13 posts in and no one's mentioned A Hard Days Night? Not much love for The Beatles.

Also Yellow Submarine.

I was actually thinking of posting Hard Days Night...on the B&W thread, but it didn't get on the post, though the tiff. file was on my desktop I can never mention them all, and I'm beginning to feel like I over-post anyway...

Yes, How the West Was Won IS a musical. Think Debbie Reynolds

I prefer the French title:
