I really loved this movie. I'll being seeing it for a 4th time in cinemas next week, which I have never for a movie before. It's just so beautiful and I keep trying to absorb all the detail and notice parts I missed before. I loved Lucille! |

I really want the steelbook but missed out on Zaavi. I see there is a German one also on Amazon but it has the rating on the bottom left corner - do you think that will be printed on?

That's classic gothic, though. It's straight from The Fall of the House of Usher, which is a pretty cool connection, I think; I wouldn't even consider it a twist because, well, it seemed kind of obvious to me. You can see a lot from Poe's stories in Crimson Peak. Maybe I was able to make that connection because I'm a fan of gothic literature
![]() I do agree with you on Wasikowska, though. Her acting seemed wooden. In any case, I'm definitely picking this up. I found it pretty enjoyable. |

I was looking immensely forward to seeing this. I never get out to the movies, but I was planning to go this week for this one if I can make it there. Haven't been to a movie in over a year, in fact. But I'm hearing a lot of negative word of mouth, and it did bad at the box office. What gives? It looks stunning and Del Toro is always worth at least one watch for every movie he's done. I like the cast a great deal, as well. It was marketed like crazy, I saw commercials for it all month long all over the place, and cast & director on talk shows, etc.
Can anyone give an entirely spoiler free explanation for why it is doing rather underwhelmingly at the box office and in people's opinions I'm reading everywhere? |

Variety indicated it's too bloody for the Harlequin crowd but not scary enough for horror fans...so it's kind of in a netherworld where it appeals to neither.

Really enjoyed this. Set design and costumes were crazy good. For me, the movie had an old school Corman-Poe type feel (obviously much more polished) with some Bava overtones too. Not for anyone looking for a scary movie though. Did feel like the movie's weak link was Mia.
