Default The BD+ countdown has begun

So apparantly The Day after Tomorrow is the first BD+ title. The HD-DVD fanboys have claimed less than 30 days to crack it. Looks like were about to find out.

I ordered the movie just to make sure my and my pop's standalones work. I wasn't a big fan of the flick. . . Talk about FUD. It even rivals AVpM$.

What do you mean "crack it" ?

Also, the BD+ will play on a PS3 correct?

Yes it play in the PS3 and Panasonic, so far on AVS people with the LG and Samsung 1000 and 1200 can't play it.

sweet, with BD+ it might give studio's like Universal and Warner reason to move to BD only :P speculation aside BD+ will be good for Blu-ray I believe.

To crack something is to make it do something that it wasn't intended to do. So basically, BD+ is implemented to limit and/or eliminate piracy by means of creating unauthorized copies of the discs. It is sad that the HD-DVD folks have a countdown on this. I mean honestly, companies should give a crap about their property and about it not being copied. It disgusts me that companies and studios (music and movie) always complain about how much money they are losing due to piracy yet they are willing to settle for AACS that has already been cracked? Give me a break. The studios were asking for piracy when not deciding to implement a new protection scheme. Regardless of DRM this or DRM that, I think BD+ is a valiant attempt to limit the unlawful stealing (and usually selling) of copyrighted material. So if it is cracked the HD-DVD folks will sit and say that is another bad aspect of Blu-ray but at least the BDA is attempting to stop piracy while the DVD forum hasn't attempted to solve a problem lingering for years and costing them billions of dollars.

I realize what "crack" means as for code.

I thought perhaps it meant something different in high def media.

Thanks for all the very quick replies though!

A drug that's named after a part of the human body.

That'll give you an image...

Imagine if it took 30 days to crack every new title released from now on?

Unless they are under the delusion they can permanently crack a per-title encoding corruption.

Wait, you said HD DVD fanboys. Never mind.

Well, they can't steal them onto HD DVD. The bandwidth is too high, and the there are nearly no burners (and none reliable) to create discs.

Stealing onto PC doesn't really help HD DVD one damn little bit. It makes a competitor out of PCs.

There better be! If my 1200 isn't playing DAT or FF4 pretty soon, I might have to become cranky on Samsung's a$$.
