Default colors look good

I like the colors, and the picture quality looks quite good given the quality of the screenshots. I like the naturalness of the picture, resolution looks good.

Thank you Reliance ( Anil Ambani co) for releaseing Robot and now this, i love your company for coming thru, at such a desolate time for blu rays with nothing coming out, i have faith that reliance will release all its pictures fast, i just watched this in the theatre three weeks ago and now my blu ray is on its way to me in California from India from indian bluray.com cant wait.

The screenshots are looking quite good. But all this hard work on making a good blu-ray and it all seems like such a waste. Why is it, that the worst of the bollywood movies get blu-ray releases?

I would still buy this blu-ray inspite of it being not a very good movie, reason being Saharan Sunny Audit. Bollywood blu-ray industry needs him badly. He has done some real magic with South Indian titles. We will eventually see a great blu-ray for a great movie from Sunny.

many thanks for the good feedback.

Yes, the film stinks...but quality should always preveil even on the worst title
I think much of the credit should also go to AP International. Working alongside them has been amazing.

Interestingly, I've heard comments that Reliance were shocked at the quality. They were expecting a typical "bollywood" blu-ray release (DVNR, boosted contrast and saturation). What they got was a true representation of the final DPX file.

We are now doing the following Hindi titles for Blu-Ray "Singham" and "BodyGuard". This is quite funny as we also did the Tamil versions too!

Good to see that your foray into the Bollywood market has been well-received. I am sure that you'll continue the good work on many future titles.

It'd be interesting to know Sunny's take on the BD release of Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye. Apart from black boosting, I thought the transfer was pretty good and it's one of 2 Indian movie BD's I own.

This is good to hear, although unfortunately the titles still don't inspire much excitement. Ofcourse not much you can do about that. Here is hoping to you being involved with more and more bollywood blu-rays and eventually we may finally have a great blu-ray of some of the better bollywood titles.

o thats a good news....wont be getting double dhamaal but would definately be getting those two titles authored by you

i've heard a lot about your work but havn't seen any of your blu rays will love to see your MAGIC in those titles

and one question ...i heard that the blu rays can't be authored directly from DPX 2k or 4k files and they first have to be converted into hdcam sr tapes and then they are authored... i want you to please throw some light on this entire process of encoding. iam just curious to know

DPX are image files - and can be transcoded to any format (with the right tools).

We do a direct transcode from DPX

Others take the DPX and then convert to a high end Lossless file (AVI, PRO-RES) then either transcode the file, or playout to HD-CAM SR tape.

They were shocked in the bad sense. When they saw our encode they felt it contained too much film-grain.

We informed them that the DPX was grain-heavy due the film-stock used and ARRI settings.

They are waiting on consumer feedback. Hopefully, they will enjoy the original look of the film (instead of the DVNR glossy - plastic image).

We can make Bollywood rock with amazing HD

yeah i agree with that most bollywood blurays will be looking like waxed or as said a plastic image without grain. Reliance Home videos should change their opinion about film grains.

Oh damn. I just hope someone there sees sense, although my cynicism thinks otherwise. As for public opinion I believe that in the case of Indian movies most people just buy the movie and don't particularly care about comparing the home video visuals to the theatrical experience. Even most films released on cinema screens these days have a sterile overly processed look. One exception is the films of Vishal Bharadwaj, I thought 7 Khoon Maaf looked amazing in its theatrical version, even if the film on the whole wasn't all that.

The thing about film grain is quite a topic of discussion in all blu ray forums in the world and it gets some real attention when studios mess up by applying DNR hell.

Happy to see that some authoring houses like Sunny, DEI, Shemaroo insist on keeping the natural grain in film based sources even though the production houses believe that consumers would prefer plastic faces. It is quite important to let consumers know that natural film grain offers the best sharpness and detail that can be achieved in blu ray. EE and DNR should be abolished unless there is something really wrong with the source.

The director and DOP should be allowed to take a decision and knowing their trade well they will never allow DNR or EE into the processing chain.

Now, coming to the screenshots of Double Dhamal posted here, unlike some of you I am not so impressed with the first two screenshots.
The first one is an indoor shot and the detail on Javed cap is lost due to incorrect white level plus the skin tones have a strange magenta tinge.
The 2nd SS seems to be in an overscast condition but suffers from white balance problem with whites blown out and skin tone looking lifeless.

I might get the BD soon to see it in real instead of judging it by screenshots. Look forward to opinion from other members as well on the real BD.

How's the movie by the way? A good comedy or trying desperately to make you laugh?

To explain my point on screenshot 2, here is a comparison between the original and two more I modified slightly to what it should look like. Areas to look for are Mallika's dress, the canopy on the left, the flower pots on the left and some other white areas. They all look washed out with loss of detail. Even the color on skin looks cold. I have tried to restore some detail and added warmth based on my limited skill on editing. You need to see them side by side to see the difference not vertically as posted.

In the original shot the histogram is a reverse bell curve which shows both black and white peaked and mid levels are low.

I am hoping the actual BD to look much better.

Original SS

well opinions differ but according to me this was one of the worst comedy movies i've ever seen..it was totally disgusting with very low production values and artificial background added to sets (i particularly hate these things where in a movie is shot in a set in mumbai and in the rear over that green croma the background of some other place is added....i have seen this in many of anees bazmee's movies and i hate it! i believe that either VFX should look or feel real which is achieved by lots of hardwork and money! else they should not try them at all.....seeing a awfully lit scene with some cheap VFX doesnt works for me)

so to sum up this movie was badly scripted badly acted , i laughed in just one or two scenes (i mean the comedy was also bad) and was technically poor too! i'll say give it a miss!

yeah....agree with above post..at the beginning everything was fine just like the old movie but later it gets dragged and boring...on the whole if u just want to enjoy the quality then go for this or else you can skip it and wait for singham which is also authored by the same company...

@divyansh, murali,

Thanks for sharing your opinion on the movie. I am more interested to see the blu ray as this is perhaps Sunny's first bollywood blu ray if I am not mistaken. I have not seen their work so far and have heard a lot about their quality. I am more interested in the technical evaluation of the BD.
