Default HD DVD to Launch Online Shopping Feature

Anyone Read this news article from AP?

http://apnews.excite.com/article/200...D8S1JTL80.html

Looks like HD DVD group is going to offer their format as a 'sellers' marketplace. Think it will catch on?

It's such an awful idea. Whats wrong with just watching and enjoying a movie? Hands up who really has the urge to buy semi-relevant film paraphernalia when the movie is over. Not me.

And this thread should be moved to the off-topic section.

Thumbs down

well I like the idea that you can buy the twelve rolls of toilet paper from the online store, because this whole idea is a big steaming pile of sh*$.

"Evan Almighty," to be released Oct. 9, will contain a simple Web browser that connects to Universal's online store, which will be offering products vaguely related to the movie. Previews of the site featured toilet paper made of recycled materials - 12 rolls for $14 - and a rain barrel for $135 (the movie is a retelling of the story of Noah's Ark). The products offered may change by the time the disc goes on sale."

Or even better can you imagine how annoying this wonderful idea would be

"The original plan was to have little tags pop up while the movie was playing, offering the opportunity to, for instance, add to the shopping cart the sunglasses that an actor was wearing, said Kevin Collins, Microsoft's "director of HD DVD evangelism."

Not worth it. Silly feature IMO, BUT it could help impulse buys. Imagine you set up an account. You see and ad for say a film, you think ohh thats good, then it flashes up, press 1 to buy now and get it delivered. Press 1, few days later boom film arrives on your door mat.

The only thing that would entice me to buy anything would be An Inconvenient Truth or The 11th Hour. Was Evan Almighty even good in comparison to Bruce Almighty?

Seriously, if the toilet paper was the first item mentioned in their press release, their PR director should be fired. I don't think I've ever seen anyone walking around with a bigger "kick me" sign on their back....
