Question Is it true that Cameron is going to re-release a better BD of the Terminator series?

It's almost the series' 25th Anniversary and rumors are afloat that the director is making some super good versions, so the older ones are going down in price.

Is this wishful thinking or a strong possibility? I hope this is the right section

So, have they since changed that ancient first experimental Lionsgate disk of T1, back when the industry was new and the company thought Blu-day disks would be coded in MPEG-2?
Think that was one of the only few that were ever done in that, before the whole VC-1/AVC war broke out and took over.

Isn't every Terminator movie owned by a different studio? Which is why you'll never see them in a package set.

The series is coming up on it's 28th anniversary, actually. I know there was talk a while back that Cameron was working with Lowry Digital to create a brand new transfer of the original Terminator but there hasnt been any news on when it will be done.

There's a DVD set of the 4 movies

A remaster of T1 would be welcome.

Think that's a foreign release, where they believe "Quadrilogy" is an actual English word.

The original Terminator movie deserves some love and a proper Blu Ray release.

well to be honest the work quadrillogy is a word in common ussage so although the dictionary guys are more dense and slower the the everyman it likely will be added at some point. I still remember the egg on face my teachers had when it went from ain't ain't a word to oh really here it is now in the dictionary. It only took them specialized liguistic types nearly 20 years to figure out what everyone else already knew. I don't put much faith in them.

Thanks,
T

The Lowry transfer has been done for a while... they were waiting on Cameron's approval but he was busy with Avatar. I'm thinking that he decided to scrap that transfer because it's pretty old now... but he's supposedly working on The Abyss and True Lies with the same team that he de-grained Aliens with, and I assume there will be new transfers made of both Terminator films (since T2 was made from an old master). It definitely needs an upgrade, so I can buy it.

I for one think both the first movies needs some love and attention.T2 in either normal or skynet editions are not very good transfers. Not very sharp, and very bland IMO-among others.

Here's to hope

As much as I would hate to do it I would byte on this again (for like the 37th time ) If they do infact take the time to perform nice transfers that is.

I do however think that the first one is probably about as good as we are likely to see (just guessing here based on what others have said about the film stock and other issues from that generation of filmaking). And I think the other issue is that if they actually clean them up and do proper non digitally mucked with transfers (no DNR, EE etc.) then there would be a massive camp divide on this just like for the (Dare I even speak it here ) Predator transfers. The one half would be totally happy with no digital fiddling . The other half would be outraged that there is grain on the screen .

I just don't think the studios can ever actually make the people, in general, happy. Well not without having to go back to the old days and constantly putting out two different transfers, one for each camp (by old days I mean DVD with widescreen and fullscreen versions of the same dang movie).

Thats my two cents.
Thanks,
T

How many DVD upgrade versions of T2 were there - weren't there three of them? I'm not talking about all the releases with different covers and newer extras and whatnot, just the ones with video/audio upgrades.

The last thing I heard about a Cameron-approved Terminator release, was that it was shelved when MGM hit that financial struggle a while ago, according to Van Ling. I have no idea if work has resumed since then, but I really hope it is. It definitely needs a proper looking release.
