I've posted this (a couple times) in the comments of the nightly spam thread that pops up, but I don't know if anyone actually reads those before deleting the threads. So here it is one more time...
I would suggest that brand new members must have new threads moderated/approved before they are posted on the site. Once a member hit like 5 approved threads (or even 3 maybe), this restriction disappears. I believe this would all but eliminate spam threads, as spammers are not going to take the time to create an account, start five real threads, and wait for those to be approved... all just to set them up for one spam thread. There are already restrictions in place for a minimum amount of posts to post links, but it's too easy for them to crank out a few random replies to threads to bypass that. By forcing them to create real threads first, and wait for those threads to go through, you'll eliminate the vast majority. |
