Default Power Rangers (2017)

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=117994

Lionsgate and Saban Brands are partnering to develop and produce an original live action feature film based on the iconic "Power Rangers" property, it was announced today by creator of "Power Rangers" Haim Saban and Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer.

Saban launched "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" as a live-action TV series more than 20 years ago, and the series has been in continuous production ever since. It has subsequently grown into one of the world’s most popular and recognizable brands, with toys, apparel, costumes, video games, DVD's, comic books and other merchandise.

The two companies noted that, with an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the "Power Rangers" are primed for the big screen. The new film franchise will re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.

"Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level," said Saban. "They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from 'The Hunger Games' to 'Twilight' and 'Divergent.' In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we're confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own."

"We're thrilled to be partnering with Haim Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise," said Feltheimer. "The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever. We have the ideal partner and the perfect brand with which to create a motion picture event that will resonate with moviegoers around the world for years to come."

Saban's "Power Rangers" franchise is the brainchild of Haim Saban, creator and producer of the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" hit series that launched in 1993. Following its introduction, "Power Rangers" quickly became the most-watched children's television program in the United States and remains one of the top-rated and longest running boys live-action series in television history. The series follows the adventures of a group of ordinary teens who "morph" into superheroes and save the world from evil. It is seen in more than 150 markets around the world, translated into numerous languages and is a mainstay in the most prominent international children's programming blocks.

Funny, I was discussing with my friend a few days ago my ideas for a Mighty Morpin Power Ranger's movie reboot based off the first season and the original dinos.

I would have it more gritty and realistic - less cheesy and have the rangers try and balance their personal lives with saving the world.

Though a few things must remain...the awesome theme and I would like to see cameos from the original cast, especially Amy Jo Johnson and even Bulk and Skull.

This fan art would be awesome.

If they can lose the cheese, I'll be all over this.

Uh, wouldn't that be Power Rangers III?:

Isn't it the lack of cheese that's making everybody complain about other rebooted franchises (like Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Bond, etc)? I'm not sure if hard gritty realism would really fit with the Power Rangers. Not that I'm against it or anything, I'm just speculating...

Jesus Christ I hope this isn't a dark and gritty reboot. There is no way to take Power Rangers seriously no matter how "mature" or hardcore they try to make it. I'm not saying we need a total camp-fest but Power Rangers is for children (I say that as a fan) and shouldn't receive a Nolan-esque adaptation.

As long as we keep Bay and the people who designed the TMNT away from this movie I'll be excited.

This has an incredible amount of potential. I'm down.

(And if anything, this might even prompt FOX to release the first movie on Blu)

I just saw the news for this and I'm so excited if it's done right. I know that the show has always been pretty cheesy, but if they took a darker tone and ran with it, it could be great. And don't cop out to making it more kid friendly in the sequels like a lot of franchises like to do. I really hope that they bring back the original characters and Rita with the Bandora gang.
The first movie could be Day of the Dumpster, and introduce the Rangers to the zords and what not. A Battlle with Goldar or the Sphinx. Post Credit scene could be Tommy as a new student
2nd Movie: Green with the Evil saga, introduce Tommy. battle with the Rangers
3rd Movie: The Green Candle, and the end Tommy loses his powers.
4th Movie: introduce Lord Zedd, Tommy becomes white ranger.

They have so much that they can do here, and Lionsgate is a great way to go. I can't wait to hear more on this.

I don't think it should be dark and brutal, but I would like it to be less cheesy than the series. The series was awesome partly because it was cheesy, but that probably wouldn't translate well for a big screen reboot.

I'm thinking something a long the lines of the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man.

I've been hoping this would happen for years! I wouldn't mind a mild dark tone, they'll have to make it less cheesy so it will appeal to more than just die hard fans. Really hope this will get the original films out on Blu-ray, I'll be super pissed if they re-release the DVD sets to promote this. That is if they make a deal with Fox.

I was way too old when this came out, and I'm actually very surprised to see this many people excited about this property. With only having minor exposure, and not enjoying what I saw, I'd still wait to see a trailer to see if it'd be something I'd be interested in.

That could work.

It's because you're too old and we were kids when Power Rangers first came on the air, not to mention when the first movie was released.
