Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons: Volume 1 (November 20th)

Was certain Network were going to let the 50th Anniversary pass by without a Blu-ray release of the original show but seems they have been remastering in secret and Volume 1 containing the first 8 episodes is available to pre-buy now for £10 on November 20th.

There will be 4 volumes in total so assuming they don't increase the price the whole series should cost £40 which seems pretty good to me.

Why can't they just release the whole set ?? Yes ! I am Happy it's being released, But 4 Volumes ? I Pre ordered $13.58 USDollars ! When does vol. 2,3,4, come out ??

They're just following the same model that was used for R&H and Department S. A full series will come later but in the meantime fans can pick up the individual volumes while the latter episodes are still being remastered.

I hope they include the original audio, the 5.1 was enough to give me the collywobbles with all those scene transitions. I just couldn't take that sound bouncing around the speakers!

I know I'm a miser, but why does £10 for eight episodes seem so much better value for money than 4 episodes? I know they're shorter in length ...

By buying volume one, you give them money which they use to make restored HD versions of the later episodes for the following volumes.

I doubt that's true, really. I'm sure the money helps, but if they've not fully funded a project this small (only 32 less-than-half-hour episodes) then there is something very wrong, considering what Network have put out before.

I would buy this in a heartbeat, but I don't want to go through the hassle of buying a volume every month, and then wondering if/how Network will ship the box to me (I certainly don't want it flattened). I've just ordered the complete Department S and Randall and Hopkirk box sets from Amazon.co.uk, and regretfully, I'll be waiting for this series box set, too.

I would expect them to be presented in a similar format to those already available so the original mono audio but will be interesting to see what encoding format they go with (1080i/50hz or 1080p/24hz)

It would be nice if the box was something different, maybe a Digipak or a natty jumbo Amaray with booklet, then they wouldn't have to flatten it!

Honestly, all discs in a single amaray case is preferable to six amarays in what I assume is a cardboard slipbox, in my opinion. Unless I'm wrong and the boxes from Network have been more elaborate and sturdier.

The 50hz presentation was to enable them to add the archive material which was all or mostly 50hz content like ads and clips from other programmes

I had assumed that was the reason but I am sure someone on here posted a response they got from Network and they said it was actually due to them wanting to present the episodes in the same format they had always been shown in the UK but of course that could be bull.

While a single case is always my preference I kind of like the idea of these volumes in their red cases each with unique artwork taking from the end credits with perhaps a slipbox to keep them in at the end.

Yeah I think it's bull. I believe it was, as has already been said, for technical reasons in the way the discs were presented with old and new materials. You can't just mix 50i and 24p sources into the same video streams and not cause major issues.

The Anderson shows of this period were shot and mixed on standard film equipment, so 24p would be correct even if not how it was screened in the UK. When we get to Space 1999 they were now shooting 25 frames a second to sync with the 50hz monitors on set but they were still mixing at 24 (hence the decision to have the BDs 24p).

Network had nothing to do with those Thunderbirds discs.

Nothing to worry about in that regard as it was ITV that released the cropped Thundetbirds set, Network have always presented their releases in OAR.
