Default My new Onkyo TX-NR3009

I just got my new 3009 that is replacing my 805. The XT32 is doing wonders for my HT setup, the bottom end seems to have benefited the most. I can actually feel the rumble I had issues with intermittent video stutter when watching cable TV, it was really noticeable watching sports. I have resolved this by turning off the cinemotion on my Sony display. It seems the HQV Vida and Cinemotion don't play nice with each other.

Default further observations of the 3009 vs 805

Thanks all for the comments. I have more pics in my hometheater album. Somethings I've noticed that the 3009 is different from the 805 apart from the better lower end are more active surrounds, I can now hear subtle surround effects more clearly, watching the NFL you can hear and make out the QB barking out audibles where before you just heard it but can't understand it. The dialog seems a bit better also. With me living in a condo I have to say the Dynamic Volume/Dynamic EQ is great thing to have especially with late night viewing. Now that I have the stuttering issue resolved the upscaling of 1080i/720p cable TV have improved the picture quality. Music also seems a tad warmer and less in your face, it seems to suit my PSBs perfectly.

The ability to listen to internet radio and the usb ipod interface is also one of things that I really appreciate with the new receiver. Although I've found scrolling through songs a bit buggy, and a couple of times the receiver froze using the NET/USB feature and the only way for it to play again is by unplugging the thing.

I'm only 7.2 right now so I haven't been able to test out the DSX, PLLz or NeoX 9.2 yet, I'm having a tough time finding another pair of PSB Image B15s in black to match my system since they have been discontinued, when I find a pair then I can go 9.2, till then it's 7.2 for me.

One thing I should add is I'm getting that DTS bomb on Star Wars episode IV when jumping chapters something my 805 with updated DSPs also experiences. I've talked to Onkyo about this and they have taken the issue to Lucasfilms as they say it's a disc issue which I'm inclined to agree with them as no other discs are giving me any issues.

Very nice indeed....I sure hope I see some lightly used 3008's for a good price show up on Audiogon, as the 300X series is definitely going to be my next processor.

Congrats, Nismo. That's one heck of a nice looking receiver up close...

You know, I didn't have much love for the new Onkyo design of their faceplates, but this beast looks pretty damn sexy up close...

My 605 just may have to be upgraded sooner than I thought...

BTW -- I had that EXACT model 240SX you had...got it when I first started going to college back in '91...it was a 1991 model year in fire engine red. Man, I LOVED that car, and so did the women...

I had a Kicker SS12 box in the back running off the stock Nissan system for awhile (with the tape deck...remember?) before I switched to a Kenwood pull out head unit; I believe it was being driven by two Coustic amps if I'm not mistaken...it was so long ago...

Yeah I'm loving the new look too, but the looks aren't just skin deep. I'm really loving all the new features this AVR has over my old 805. People haven't mentioned that Onkyo has finally given us the music curve for Audyssey to select which I fell greatly enhances music playback. I also enjoying all net radios, I mainly use Sirius, but Slacker and Aupeo are very good as well.

In regards to my old 240sx, I miss that car. I didn't have as nice an audio setup as you but it was decent. I had a Premier deck with JBL speakers and ported box with an 8 inch Kicker Solobaric L5 sub powered by a Kenwood amp. For 8 inches that sub really dug deep with the ported enclosure.

Indeed; enjoy the new receiver!

BTW -- do you have a 46" Sony display in your gallery? If so, how do you like it? Does it seem "big" enough for you for an immersive HT experience?

Well, you still had Kicker and Kenwood -- a KILLER car audio combo!

I was an editor for Car Sound & Performance and AutoMedia magazines for awhile, so I knew the good brands; we sampled stuff all the time. Those Kicker Solobarics indeed kicked ass; in my last car, a '99 Accord Coupe, I was running two Fosgate Punch XLC 15's in a sealed box powered by a Fosgate Punch amp which was bridged, all off the stock Honda/Alpine head unit. Hit pretty damn hard.

I wouldn't go with anything other than Kicker or Rockford for subs, and I'd recommend Kenwood, Alipne or possibly Sony for head units. I'm not really into the car audio scene anymore though; the JBL system in my current car from the factory suits me well enough. I guess we all grow up.

Yeah, I used to set off car alarms with my Kicker 12's in the 240 when I drove by...ahhhhh...those were the days...
