This really sucks...Best Buy is giving away free Toshiba HD-DVD players to customers who purchase their 1080p TVs plus they have a special in their ad that is for 9 free movies..four instant in store...when you check their website Toshiba players are either sold out or on backorder! This is not good news...Sony you really need to try harder!!!!!

i won't concern myself too much over this... giving out a free player with a tv sounds like a good deal, but honestly, how else do you move garbage off your shelves without throwing it in the trash... that's right, give it away. less static inventory (players AND discs). bold movie, but toshibia is already bleeding in the red (hence HD DVD's color of choice) so this really doesn't help their situation but pad their numbers with "installed hardware". the 40GiB PS3 this christmas will bend over the Toshiba players and make them feel as if they are acting out a scene in Deliverence. graphic, but that's reality. deal with it.

First, there is already a thread concerning this. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=18575 So, stop with the FUD.
They are giving away stuff because it won't sell. It is backordered because there have been very few HD-A30's actually shipped. Sony doesn't need to give stuff away. Why does Sony HAVE to do anything? Why not Philips or Panasonic, or Samsung, or Sharp. They all make TVs and blu-rays. People are buying blu-ray players and media, the BDA doesn't have to give it away. Last edited by SS316SRV; 10-04-2007 at 01:53 PM. |

I would not worry about this because you need to move more then just players to win this, plus the ammount of players moved will not increase their numbers enough to combat the fact that there is nothing coming out on HD-DVD that worth while, and once these people look at the growth (selection) of the movies available I think they will quickly see how little selection there is.
