United Kingdom A Fistful of Dynamite (aka Duck, You Sucker) (1971) Masters of Cinema (Eureka)

A Fistful of Dynamite Blu-ray

Quote:
New Announcement! A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE (AKA DUCK YOU SUCKER!), Sergio Leone’s criminally underrated final western starring Rod Steiger and James Coburn, will be available for the first time on Blu-ray in the UK as part of The Masters of Cinema Series from 25 November 2019. Presented with a Limited Edition 60-page Collector’s Book and Hardbound Slipcase. Available to PRE-ORDER now from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...bb1b98f93902cd Zavvi http://po.st/yBCXiQ

From Sergio Leone, the acclaimed director of A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY and ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST comes his final Western, A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE (AKA DUCK, YOU SUCKER! and released in some territories as ONCE UPON A TIME... THE REVOLUTION).

Starring acting giants Rod Steiger (IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT) as Juan Miranda, an amoral peasant-turned-outlaw, and James Coburn (PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID) as John Mallory, a dynamite-tossing Irish revolutionary who has fled to Mexico after becoming a fugitive in his own country. Together, they're a devilishly volatile mix of anti-establishment philosophies and violent tendencies as they attempt to liberate political prisoners, defend their compatriots against a well-equipped militia, and risk their lives on a train filled with explosives.

Featuring a haunting and rousing score by iconic composer Ennio Morricone, A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE has risen in stature over the years and is now recognised alongside THE DOLLARS TRILOGY and ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST as a true masterpiece. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE in its UK debut on Blu-ray.

When it says 2 versions, does it mean the version without the final flashback featured in the Italian and restored versions, as well as that version.

The original mono is welcome.

Fingers crossed Eureka accidentally release the version with the horsefalls or the BBFC let em off.

I get the impression they mean two different masters, but I could be wrong. Hopefully both are full-length.

I want to say that they might be just be the Italian and MGM presentations separately.

157 minutes on the Amazon & Zavvi listings indicates the longer complete version, which is to be expected.

Eureka have confirmed this is the censored version on Facebook...

DVDCompare suggests that the first UK DVD of this was uncut, and on BBFC there is an earlier submission for a home video release which is indeed uncut. However, this version looks to be about 6-7 seconds shorter than the later submission (which was cut), so I'm guessing that it was pre-cut by MGM? I don't know if someone who has the first UK DVD can check.

I saw an English language print of this version last year, looked and sounded lovely!

Pretty sure the first DVD release of this had the horse falls intact. So hope it somehow sneaks through.

Yep the first UK DVD had the horsefalls intact (the version without the final flashback), still have it somewhere.

There's a comparison over at caps a holic of the old MGM release and the Italian rerelease with the newer transfer.

Looks a quality release but a real shame the previous cuts were not waived.

Just like High Noon, this is another immediate pre-order from me! So happy to finally see a UK label license some Leone...it's been long enough!

Now to wait and see who picked up The Dollars Trilogy. I assumed it might be Arrow but I'm not so sure now...

On caps-a-holic it's the older Italian Blu-ray which I have:

New one has this cover:

Presumably it has the same 2009 restoration.

Hopefully, as it needs a lot more work than I think Eureka are capable of giving it. No offence to Eureka but they need multiple cuts, probably re-colour timed and Arrow simply have more financial power to give them that. (And hopefully whoever has it can match Kino in the 4K UHD department)

I hope Arrow have it as well, would love me some multi-disc LEs. Uncut FAFDM, (proper) International Cut of TGTBATU with original mono soundtracks etc.
