Thumbs down Why do you hate the 3D in this "MOVIE"???

We all have our own standard for what makes 3D great. But as another thread member suggested, there are many conflicting opinions about the 3D in any one, single movie. Some will say the 3D was great, others will say "Meh, I thought it was lousy". So what are the factors at play here to explain why there are so many conflicting opinions on the 3D in a movie?

Here are some of the factors people have mentioned about 3D being poor: They all have merit, based on individual standards: Paraphrased

-3D POP OUT: Not enough good pop out of the screen moments. (decision by filmmaker)
-3D DEPTH: 3D doesn't have enough depth (post 3D editing required by filmmaker)
-3D POP: 3D is too flat, not enough distance between the layers (cameras were too close together, or converted 2D to 3D wasn't pushed far enough apart)
-The ghosting ruins it for me. (ghosting more apparent in Strong 3D films)
-The two cameras aren't in sync at the same time. (camera rig issue during filming)
-The 3D wasn't converged. Headache inducing 3D since it's too far apart for the eyes to blend the two into one image. (post 3D editing required by filmmaker)
-The 3D distracts from the beauty of the visuals. (3D glasses uncomfortable)
-3D inconsistencies. Some shots flat, some strong 3D.
-Bad conversion errors all over the place. (Piranha 3D, rush job conversion)
-Colors not right: Blacks are too mushy (check your TV contrast/color settings)
-Converted from a 2D source to 3D, not filmed in 3D.
-Not enough Volume in the characters from the 2D to 3D conversion.
-What else?

Based on those general reasons, I don't think it's the equipment as much as it is the expectations of 3D. If someone expects lots of pop out shots, and the movie only delivers one in 2 hours, there's no way they won't be disappointed and say "There was hardly any 3D at all."

I'm going to guess most people are disappointed when they don't get enough pop out of the screen moments. Actually, let's take a poll...

Instead of saying the easy thing "The 3D was great." or "The 3D was lousy", one could say "The 3D was lousy because it didn't have enough POP OUT", or "The 3D was great because it had plenty of POP, DEPTH. Not too much POP OUT though." This would help clear up some of the confusion about what has "good" 3D and what doesn't, so we can make an easier decision on whether to buy a 3D title based on it's 3D audience feedback.
