Hey guys. So I graduated from High School yesterday, and one of my Uncles decided to get me these to films on DVD:
[Show spoiler] Yes I know I know, they were gifts. I am not going to get rid of them, but I am not sure if I am going to watch them. I haven't watched either film, so I was thinking that my first viewing experience should be on the Blu-ray format. Especially since they are both older films. So what do you guys do when you receive a DVD from a relative or friend? Do you think I should watch them on DVD or buy the Blu-rays? |

Watch them first, then decide if you want to upgrade to Blu-Ray.
I sometimes do get cheap or free DVDs, and if I do like the movie enough, I'll upgrade. I often times keep both the DVD and BD and make my own combo packs. Of course, Taxi Driver and 2001 are considered classics and many would call them must-have Blu-Rays. You might still want to try them out first; 2001 is weird and slow as frakk. ![]() |

2001 on blu looked like it was filmed last month. Such a nice-looking transfer. That one I'd recommend you save until watching it on blu. Might as well go for the Kubrick Triple feature.
Taxi Driver I'd go ahead and watch. It's the kind of movie that could benefit in ways from looking grimy and not as clear as blu. Then if you like it, go out and get that awesome Digipack that's dirt cheap right now then trade in the DVD for U&S. |

just smile nicely and put it on ebay in an hour
kidding, it depends on who it's from, if it's from my friend who doesn't even remember what he gave me last year then i'm selling it don't ever get rid of anything a girlfriend gives you, at least not until you break up if it's from a girlfriend, It doesn't matter if you have 1000 blus and that one dvd, you need to put that dvd in the most obvious spot |

Last time this happened was last nov.
The movie was "What Lies Benieth" and as far as I know it's not available on BD. (It is available from Vudu in HDX ...) It took me a while to watch it but I watched it and I enjoyed it and it didn't matter too much that it was a DVD. I may use it to get the HDX version for $2.50 from Vudu and then trade it in for the U&S. -Brian |

Congratulations on graduating!
Both of those films are considered borderline classics. In my opinion BOTH are worth getting on Blu-ray. I'd watch them on DVD first and if you like them enough go ahead and pick them up on Blu-ray and add them to your collection. |

Thank you! I was thinking about watching them at first, but I am kind of worried that the picture/audio quality will be so bad that I won't be able to enjoy them. I guess I am just so use to Blu-ray now.

I wish I could say my family knows better, but unless I specially list "BLU RAY ONLY NO DVDS*****" someone is bound to fail. I would sell em, or do the best Buy upgrade thing. Or just tell your uncle your blu ray player doesn't play DVD's
