Warner Bros. are distributing this here, where as Paramount are distributing it in the US.

Think I'll try and see this soon at my nearest IMAX before I decide to buy...been hearing mixed things from various places. Thanks to it being a Nolan film though it won't have the usual 3D option driving the price up!

I trust Warner more than Paramount with the release, although likelihood is both releases will be identical.

Really? I'm the opposite. Paramount's Watchmen disc was superior to WB's. Gravity and The Dark Knight were steps down in quality from their trailers.

I don't want to be a bug burden, but it seems like an expensive viewing for something you don't expect to be very good.

Regardless I have my tickets for IMAX 70MM booked for Saturday as well, my expectations have dropped a tad since the reviews are a bit mixed, but it should be an experience nonetheless.

Unbelievably my nearest Imax is cheaper for me than my local cinema. I love The Prestige, I think its a superb movie and one of my favourites. TDK and BB are ok, not a fan of TDKR or Memento and I completely hate Inception on every level, it actually annoys me that movie. I fear this will be more like Inception than his other work but hopefully not.

Plus my girlfriend is a big Nolan fan so I'm not going to make her go on her own.

I'm definitely hoping for the best! Its going to be a long movie so I hope it sustains my interest. The trailers have, to my eyes at least, been very underwhelming and McConaughey seems to be going through his True Detective motions but I do want to enjoy this movie and genuinely hope I have a great time Saturday.

My nearest IMAX is in Cardiff (I live in Devon). So as much as I want to see this in the cinema, I suspect I won't. I refuse to pay money to see it in the cinema when it's not in the medium it was designed for. I will wait for a discount Blu-Ray and watch it in the comfort of my own home.

This is the issue with IMAX in my opinion. I have seen one film in IMAX - Gravity - and I fell in love with it. But why should I have to travel great distances to see a film?! I'm all for the continuation of film, in fact I support it greatly, but it becomes very difficult to do so when cinemas won't support it...

There may be a cinema showing it in 35mm if you're lucky. According to Nolan his preference is 70mm IMAX > 35mm film > everything else. Most IMAX screens in the UK are IMAX Digital, so not even the format Nolan and other directors who shoot their films using IMAX would like you to see it in. To do that, you'd have to go to London/Manchester/Birmingham I'm guessing. So very few people will actually see the film the way it was intended.

I've seen a handful of films in IMAX Digital and generally it's much better for a big blockbuster if it's 3D (TRON: Legacy, Prometheus, Pacific Rim, Star Trek Into Darkness), and even better if it's not 3D (like Skyfall, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Oblivion, Elysium etc). It's generally just the biggest screen you could see the film in so of course it's preferable if you can get to one. If I don't end up seeing it in IMAX I might just wait for home video. Gravity seems to get a bad rap on blu-ray from some people but I think it still looks and sounds great at home...but obviously not as immersive as in the cinema (I hate 3D unless the screen is big enough).

I didn't know that most IMAX cinemas were digital. It's good to know! Thanks

I still haven't picked up Gravity on Blu-Ray. Partly because I know it won't be as good as when I saw it in the cinema - don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be amazing, just not as good

Is there any chance that Interstellar will be in the IMAX in London by 13-15th December as I'll be in London around that time, long shot I know.

For my money Gravity is easily as good at home in 3D as it was both times I saw it at the Imax.

I'm certain it will be at the BFI IMAX for a long time, much like Nolan's previous films. I've not actually paid to see a film there - the only time I saw a film that wasn't a documentary there was Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, which looked amazing (the biggest screen I've ever watched...biggest in the UK so I'm told) but obviously the film was a bit crap (to me anyway). I only went because I was given some free tickets. I'd recommend booking in advance at least a week before if you're planning on going when you go up to London (if you've not been there before it's not too far a walk from Waterloo or London Bridge).

Gravity looks excellent on blu-ray. Can't say anything for the 3D version 'cause as I said I get frustrated with 3D when it's on anything smaller than IMAX - I saw a few Pixar films in a smaller cinema (simply because there was no 2D option) and came out with a huge headache each time (despite enjoying the films). Not the case when I saw Gravity, which is definitely the best 3D to date. But anyway enough about 3D, this thread is about Interstellar.

I'd recommend seeing a film like this on the biggest screen possible. The only worry I have is the sound mix...but then again The Dark Knight Rises had a similar problem and I still managed to enjoy it. It's a shame it's apparently too expensive to convert a cinema to project film though...I don't think I've seen a film projected on 35mm since the Alien reissue some years back!

Warner Bros. gave the US the Ultimate Cut and Maximum Movie Mode feature for Watchmen, so I'd argue they have the advantage...

Now I don't want to be labelled as a "troll" but whenever people see a new film with the name stamped "Nolan" on it they jump off their seats assuming it's a fantastic film which isn't always the case... *cough* Man of Steel *cough* Dark Knight Rises *cough*.

Perhaps people will like this without overhyping it.

To cut him a little slack, he only produced Man Of Steel and to me that film was a train wreck. I'd definitely question his integrity if he'd actually directed the thing.

Hmmm. I didn't even want a copy of the so-called "ultimate cut." Being honest, I struggled to enjoy the Tales of the Black Freighter insertions when reading the comic and feel the decision to add it as an animated continuous piece would add absolutely nothing of any value to a cinematic live action version of Watchmen (neglecting it entirely is surely far less contraversial than the decision to change the plot by the "villain" anyway -
[Show spoiler]blaming the attacks on Dr Manhattan rather than horrifying the planet with a giant, murderous psychic squid
). If you're gonna actually change the ending, why is it so important for Black Freighter to appear? btw I actually liked that changing of the ending, thought it was a good idea. As for Maximum Movie Mode, I always much prefer better PQ over extras given the option.

Edit: mispelt Manhattan.
