Default Compared Sony BDP-S350 to Yamaha BD-S667

Since I am waiting for Big Daddy's review of his Yamaha RX-A3010, I decided to compare my older Sony BDP-S350 to my Yamaha 667 in the meantime

Well first of all the two players are not even in the same category, so it is kind of unfair but it matches in price lol.

My latest BluRay concert demo is (A Musicares Tribute to NEIL YOUNG)
It sounds amazing and everyone who performs are so different in so many ways. You can hear all kinds of different sounds, it is truly awesome

Well right off the bat the Yamaha won in sound!!
Picture quality is also so much better then the Sony.

I don't have an Oppo yet, but I am sure you cannot get any better then the Oppo 93 or 95
The Yamaha, Denon and Marantz are in the same category, and sadly the Sony falls into the Samsung, LG, Sharp, Panasonic category which is entry level indeed. The only Sony that was the best BluRay player was the BDP-S5000ES which sadly is no longer around. Plus Sony ES is also gone which ended an Era in its own right.

So basically I am saying if you want entry level buy the Sammy, Panny etc. if you want something much better, get the Denon, Yammy etc. or if you want the best buy the Oppo 93 or 95

I never thought that this Sony is so entry level until I compared it to the Yamaha 667 BluRay player.

Next I am buying the Oppo 93 in early Spring

Hey bigbull,

No way this is not a rebadged Sharp!!
I had a Pioneer BDP 330 which was a rebadged Sharp and it was a total waste in time and money.
This Yamaha is only on sale because it was last years model, but trust me it is so worth it for $155 or $157 which I paid for it
It's much better then the Sony or Sharp etc. etc.

Sharp only merged with Pioneer lol and you can see it in their products, Pioneer in my opinion will never be Elite as they once were.

Go buy one, I love this Yamaha but I will have to try the Oppo 93 next year

To be honest if you actually believe what you are saying you should save your money and not waste it on an OPPO. Having owned a sony bdp-S460, Panasonic BDP-85K, Panasonic BDt-350, and Oppo BDP-93 I think you will be in for a world of dissapointment. I would put my according to you entry level panasonic BDT-350 against the oppo in terms of Picture and Sound Quality for Blu-ray playback. The Oppo May and I do mean May as in might have slightly better DVD scalling but its probably too close to be noticable really.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks,
T

Well thanks for your two cents, but if this is true what your saying, then why does the Oppo 93 cost $499 and 95 costs $999????
So are you saying, I should stick with my Yammy 667??
I would like to try the Oppo 93, but now you scared the hell out of me, because I am a very picky person when it comes to Audio and Video.
If it ain't right, I do not want it. lol
So should I look into the Yamaha Aventage BD-S1010 which costs $499 like the Oppo??

Please let me know what I should do?
Maybe I should just stick to Yamaha lol

build quality. It is a well built system. But what I am saying is that calling some of the other units you have called entry level are not as bad as you make them out. I think there may be a slight bit of plecebo effect in your judging. Not saying there is no difference but I don't think many would see the same difference.

Thanks,
T
