Exclamation Would you buy a 42" LG plasma for 600 bucks?

My friend works for Panasonic and is involved with taking HDTV's to shows and such. After the TV is used it can't be resold as new. The manager decides what to do with it, and well, he gets some NICE freebies. No, this stuff is not hot. He's an honest Christian guy.

I don't know the exact model but he has a guy lined up to buy this 42" LG Plasma with HDMI. I don't know many technical specs now, but it may NOT do 1080p, just 1080i. Heck, it could be 720p for all I know. Considering similar LG sets I see on their site is $1200+, I say his asking price of $600 bucks is a sweet deal!

He has to offer it to other guy first who is very likely to take it off his hands. He suspects 60/40 in favor of the purchase. Now my dilemna.

If by some MIRACLE this clown does not buy it, would I be foolish to pass up this plasma set even though it may not do 1080p? It supposedly does do ATSC and I'll guess that means I can get over the air HD, like I do now.

I mean, I would REALLY have to find someplace for my HD tube set as I am not about to let that go. I am just not crazy about plasma because of the potential for burn-in, picture refresh, screen door effects, etc.

What thinketh ye all?
