I happen to know a large amount of people who will not watch The Kings Speech since it is rated R. My question is regarding the release of the film: Will they release a PG-13 version of it on blu ray?
Normally, i would say this is a stupid question, but owning to the fact that when it was released in the USA, two versions were released. The R Rated version was released first, followed soon after by a PG-13 version. Thoughts? |

I know that is was Rated R for the swearing scene with the F-Word is used repeatedly. The PG-13 version that was released contained the initial F-Word, and the subsequent F-Words were replaced with SH**.
Since it was released widespread with the PG-13 rating, my question still stands as to whether it will be given a blu-ray release as well. Last edited by ScarredLungs; 07-04-2011 at 02:37 PM. Reason: typo |

I hope that the PG-13 version will be released on Blu. The movie was very good easily getting my nod for the Oscars, but the strong language was not necessary and is not suitable for children, which it could be if they would tone it down. It spotlights a mostly forgotten bit of history when God put a leader in power to change the world. Could you imagine what would have happened if David was king? He sympathized with the Nazis and even went to the Munich Olympics and met Hitler personally.

I hate to say it, but if it hasn't been released already then they probably won't release it.
In theaters, an R-rating can restrict your audience. But when buying or renting movies, the rating policies are less strict. So the studios probably don't feel the need to release the PG-13 version to the home video markets. |

The reason they originally appealed against the R-Rating was so that it could be shown in schools without the need for permission. So it'll might get a PG-13 release. However, I struggle to see why it even got re-released in theatres, it's not going to grab anymore money

I think the PG-13 version substituting one word for another is just ridiculous, to be honest. Swearing is swearing, and our kids are going to hear it eventually. To be honest, I'm not going to show this movie to a kid under 12 or 13 anyway because they won't appreciate the movie until they're old enough to understand it. They're going to hear much worse at school. Not to mention the F word is in it for what, a few times in one scene and once more later on? I fail to see the point of it...But that's just my honest opinion. But I don't think it'll ever be released on home video that way. It already would have by now if they were going to.

The film has already been made and released as a PG-13 version as well. It would only have to now be released on video. It is not like the work still has to be done to edit it.

In fact, it is perhaps ironic that the point of the scene is that 'f*ck' is just a word and nothing more... |

![]() But seriously, kids are going to hear much more vulgar things at school and work...This movie is tame compared to anything they'll hear. Not to mention I don't know any kids under between 13-15 who will really appreciate this movie. So editing down for their age group is just a bit ridiculous. The fact that the movie was edited at all is ridiculous, and it goes against what the director wanted. He was against it since the beginning. It was a blatant cash grab by the Weinsteins and it backfired. I don't see it ever seeing the light of day on home video. I just find it funny that people would rather have the version where one swear word is altered for another...Kinda defeats the whole purpose of an edited version, doesn't it? Swearing is swearing, and words are words. One is no worse than the other unless you make it that way. ![]() Last edited by Walts Ghost; 07-04-2011 at 07:18 PM. |

I agree with those stating that this was unnecessary. The cussing is fine. Kids hear cussing everywhere everyday. Whether it be from their parents, in a movie, on a video game, or from other kids. Can't shelter the kid forever, a couple swear words isn't going to turn them into the devil.

Sure, sooner or later everyone will hear some swearing somewhere, but to put it in a movie where other than the swearing could be rated PG seems a waste to me. Also there are so few excellent movies that come out of Hollywood these days and this aside from a few words is one of the few. |
