My brother, who rarely watches or even follows movies, somehow heard of this a while ago and really wants to see it.

Any opinions on the movie? He adores The Godfather series.

It is an absolutely fantastic film(s). I own the UK release and it is one of my favorites. I would consider Mesrine to be the french equivalent of any of the best of US gangster movies, Godfather, Goodfellas, Scarface, etc. Vincent Cassel is phenomenal in it. I highly recommend it.

Also, in regards, Pro-B already has a US release thread for Mesrine...

Both films put Mann's Public Enemies to shame and Cassell makes Depp look positively nailed down, that was the most talked about gangster film of 2009 but this should have been the 2 everyone was shouting about. Witness true acting from Cassell, Black Swan doesn't even hint at what he's capable infact no Hollywood film has exploited him properly so far, here's hoping Cronenberg with Viggo & Fass will be the ticket for Vincent to truly show his talent.

Mesrine Parts 1 & 2 are simply phenomenol with me slighty edging towards part 2 as the better one, don't like the new packaging though glad to stick with my UK version!

Oops, a novice error. I could have sworn I searched "Mesrine" in the Forum tab, but perhaps I forgot to. We can merge them if he likes.

When I go to the American Mesrine page this is the only thread that pops up!

Alliance got its dirty hands (I know they do ok sometimes) on the Canadian version which is listed at 25GB and the American Music Box Films version is listed at 50GB so you'd have to think it would be superior.

Thanks in advance for the review!

Great movie by the way!!!

No worries, my friend! I only knew because I had commented in it, and on the plus side, thetano is exactly correct, this thread pops up under the American page which is a good thing!

Am I to understand that after the UK and Canadian versions were both on 25gb discs... The US release finally splits the films, gets a 50gb disc with better encode and the lossless audio is dropped??

Does anyone have the US release yet and can anyone confirm if it really only has Dolby 5.1? The Canadian price is a little much at the moment but it's sounding like the best copy to buy. Anyone else's thoughts?

I just bought part 1 and part 2 of the Canadian version at wal mart for only 15$ a part. And while Alliance sometimes sucks for old catalog movies, I'm quite sure this gonna have the same transfer on the US version!

Hey, good to know! I figured the transfer would be fine.. I would really like the lossless audio as well so now i just need to find some Canadian versions. Sadly, my Wal Mart does not have them thanks for the help!

Anyone compared the image quality (and extras) of the UK and USA releases?

Aren't you Region B, Q?? If you are you should just pick up the UK release. It is fantastic. That is the one I own, bonus too as it comes with both Parts 1 and 2, instead of separate releases.

Mesrine Parts 1 and 2 (UK)

Yeah, I just thought that spreading the two movies on two 50Gb discs would be better, but if you're saying the UK release is totally worth it, I'll just get that.

Strange! I had decided ahead of time not to get the US versions since the back cover only listed standard DD audio!

Now we shall have to see if the US release of Part 2 has the extras, otheriwise the UK Region B edition (with PAL extras) will do nicely for me.
