Talking "The League" Official Discussion

I thought a thread for this show was created during it's first season, however I cannot seem to locate it so for the time being I have created a new discussion thread for this fun fantasy football comedy starring some modern comedy greats like Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer and Jon Lajoie. The second season premieres Thursday, September 16th at 10 p.m. eastern on FX.

Quote:
When six friends compete on the virtual gridiron, it's a no-holds-barred, win-at-all-costs free-for-all full of deception, trickery and one-upmanship. Pete (Duplass), a slacker who has won the league the past four seasons, is determined to triumph once again even at the risk of his marriage. Arrogant yet paranoid, Ruxin (Kroll) would rather brush up on key fantasy stats than dote on his newborn, much to his wife's chagrin. League commissioner Kevin (Rannazzisi) secretly has his wife - the ruthless, confident and vaginally talented Jenny (Katie Aselton) - run his team. Kevin's younger brother, Taco (Jonathan Lajoie), is a part-time musician who writes inappropriate songs and a full-time stoner. Once a loser in high school, Andre (Scheer) is now a successful plastic surgeon and a just as unsuccessful fantasy league player. Though marched grudgingly into adulthood, the motley crew finds refuge from life's tedium with immature behavior and the thrill of chasing victory.

Cast
* Mark Duplass as Pete Eckhart, the three-time defending champion of the league; recently separated from his wife.
* Nick Kroll as Ruxin, a defense attorney who will go to great lengths (including selling out his friends) to do well in the league
* Jon Lajoie as Taco, a perpetually stoned and unemployed musician; Kevin's younger brother.
* Stephen Rannazzisi as Kevin, a district attorney; league commissioner
* Paul Scheer as Andre, a rich plastic surgeon whose naivete makes him the brunt of many jokes.
* Katie Aselton as Jenny, Kevin's wife -- who secretly helps him run his team
* Leslie Bibb as Meegan, Pete's estranged wife; she hates fantasy football, but wants to start a family with him
* Nadine Velazquez as Sophia, Ruxin's wife
* Alina Foley as Ellie, Kevin & Jenny's young daughter
* Janina Gavankar as Shivakamini Somakandarkram

Season One Blu-Ray Release:
Quote:
On August 11, 2010 Fox Home Entertainment announced that the first season will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 14, 2010. The discs will include extended episodes, featurettes, and the pilot of the FX original series Archer.[3]

Really? No league fans out there besides me. Come on, I know you nerds love your comedy and your fantasy football. Guys who never played the sport love fantasy football, which might be why I've never played fantasy but I love the show anyways.

It's a pretty good show. I don't play FF but I don't feel isolated and that's not where the majority of the humor somes from. I'm watching the second season for sure.

I have never played fantasy football either, I played real football for 13 years and am a huge football fan. Most of the humor on this show isn't related to the fantasy aspect, but more so just the guys who are best buddies all hanging out, drinkin and rippin on each other. It's pretty much just a "regular everyday normal guy" show, which just so happens to be on of Jon Lajoie's hit songs. He plays Taco and his standup album is pretty funny. Hearing him sing about how a child was conceived for her 6th birthday was a really uncomfortably funny moment watching the parents faces react and thank god they turned that into one of season one's most hilarious moments. You should give it a shot, season one was only six episodes.

Next Thursday is the return of both It's Always Sunny and the second season of this great show. I can't wait, the 6 episodes in the first season was just way too short. Now with me playing fantasy football for the first time I will probably enjoy this even more.

I think my favorite moment of the first season was when asked for his pick in the middle of the draft and Taco replied "Joffrey Reynolds" and the guys asked who the hell is Joffrey Reynolds? Too which he replied, "He plays for the Calgary Stampede" and they get pissed and yell, "Taco this is American Football!!!"

He was always so high that he often reintroduced himself to his childhood friends as though they'd just met. Long Live Taco!!!!

Shivakamini Somakandarkram

That's right I just Shiva Blasted the hell out of this thread.

This was probably my favorite new show of last year, heavily looking forward to Thursday with Sunny and the league.

Taco's rap "I'm Inside Me" featuring OchoCinco, probably the greatest moment of the series. The premiere was awesome!

That was awesome, hey man I was really excited by my lineup after the draft to, but rosterbating never even crossed my mind. But considering his wife in bag of sexual frustration housed in the body of a latin supermodel, he probably had to get that aggression out.

‘The League’ hit series highs
Quote:
"The League" at 10:30 p.m. posted highs across the board compared to last year's series debut, including total viewership (1.71 million; a 72% increase). In the coveted 18-49 demo, "The League" saw a gain of 76% to 1.38 million.

The show also retained 77% of its lead-in from "Sunny," up 14% of last year's audience.
