Default HMV lost my order....possibly want to get the police involved....

So I ordered Falling Down a few weeks back on Blu Ray from HMV and it's failed to turn up so I messaged them a few days back and they got back to me today with the following;

Thanks for your email.

I'm sorry to hear that the FALLING DOWN BLU has not been delivered yet.

We sent this item to you on the 5/1/12. Most items do arrive within 2 to 5 days from us posting them to you. Having said that, delays do sometimes occur within the mailing system, and we would ask that you wait a total of 14 days for the delivery to be made.

The last estimated date of arrival for this package is the 19/1/12.

If you do not receive the item by this date and your local sorting office is unable to assist you, in order for us to proceed with your claim for a refund / replacement, we require you to read this letter and confirm that all details are correct. This information will be used to process claims via Royal Mail and they may also pass the information provided to the police for internal investigations.

....................

And some statement they want me to sign;

I confirm that the item has not been delivered to me. I have waited 14 days from the date my item was dispatched, I have contacted my local Royal Mail sorting office and they have confirmed they do not hold any undelivered items for me. I am happy to answer any correspondence received from the Royal Mail/Police.

I would also like to confirm that I require (delete as appropriate) a refund or replacement. Please note that if you choose to have a replacement it will appear as a refund and recharge on your account.

Should the original order, as detailed above, arrive with me I confirm I will return the item to the following:

So apparently i've got to phone up my local royal mail office and possibly expect a phonecall from the police

Ha, not sure the police will be called over one missing Blu-ray. I'd just say you've checked and sign the thing after waiting 14 days, it'll probably show up if it hasn't been that long. I wouldn't worry about it, items go missing in the post all the time.

In fact they probably only mention the police as a deterrent to stop people claiming items have gotten lost when they haven't, who make claims multiple times.

Just a bit surprised because I remember I had a problem witht he LOTR extended set from Sainsburys entertainment and it failed to arrive so I sent them a message and they didn't even ask me wait a few days they refunded me the next day hassle free.

I can see myself now trying to explain to the judge how it wasn't my fault

Do they have rozzers in Guernsey?

I'm sure the UK had to send a load over when they found all those dead bodies in that children's home.

Seriously, that's a standard claim form which HMV will send to the RM (or Guernsey Post) to 'prove' the item has went missing. It's a bulk form and I'm sure nobody every reads them.

If you want -not- to fall out with the retailer fill it in and send it or email it.

Obviously if you are lying you may extraordinarily-rendered from British Waters to Guernsey. So be careful

Do me a favour... The Police get involved with a one off blu-ray worth about £7 getting lost in the post.

If that's the case most buyers on ebay should be shittin' themselves.

Unless you're a serial offender for claims of non-reciept of goods through the post and Royal Mail decide to investigate, you've nothing to worry about.

Zavvi lost a recent returned item I sent back to them (they said it was lost in the mail), they're yet to get back to me after messaging them before Christmas. Shame I lost the bloody proof of posting!

I had one of these standard forms to fill out a few years back, after my PC died the £440 voucher that Curry's sent out, went to my old address (they'd collected my PC from my new one....). I'm just speculating that I think the voucher may have been redeemed quicker than a loaded Ben Johnson does 100 metres by my old addresses current occupants....

I can't see how far you can help the Royal Mail or the Police with enquiries it would probably be 'Have you received your parcel?' to which you'd respond 'No' and that would be the end of it, unless it turns out to be an episode of Seinfeld where Newman will reveal a picture of you watching the lost BD and throwing the packaging in the fire with an evil grin on your face.

I once had an Amazon UK order never turning up, so I reported it to them and they shipped again. About half a year later, out of the blue I got an email from the Royal Mail, asking a bunch of questions. I answered them as best I could, but really, if something doesn't turn up, what can you do to help. Not much. But it did surprise me a little that Amazon, huge as they are, actually had bothered with further investigation for a couple of cheap BDs. Maybe it's a bigger problem than one might think. But that was the last I heard of it anyhow.

A little trivia, the woman from the Royal Mail had a last name that was basically pronounced Swindle. No joke. I thought that was kind of amusing.

Haha don't worry mate, I got the same message a few months ago when a boxset I ordered didn't come for like 2 weeks. It actually was in waiting at the post depo, for some reason It just was never delivered when it should have been, got 'attempted to be delivered' the next day i got the same message back from HMV. Picked it up the following day and that's the only problem ive had with HMV.

It's a pre-emptive legal disclaimer, the chances of any sort of invovlment with police is like 0.2%, it's all so that they have some backing when they ask Royal Mail where it is.

Nothing to worry about. I buy vast amounts of stuff through the net every year and the law of averages mean a few packages never make it to me and I've yet to be dragged away and waterboarded for complaining. The clause about the police is if the sender notices a lot of mail not being delivered to a particular area at which point the Royal Mail will investigate a particular postman and prosecute him if he's thieving or dumping the mail.

Nothing to worry about, I've had to sign that form myself before when HMV lost one of my Blus. Seems that only HMV seem to even mention it, I've had items not arrive from Amazon/Play and they offer either a replacement or a refund, no problems.

As people have already said, there's nothing to worry about. It's just the standard email they send out for lost packages. I'm guessing it's there to try and put off anyone thinking of trying it on and pretending that the package was lost when really they're planning to keep both copies or sell one on.
