At comic con they are showing the spartacus prequel "ring of fire" battle sequence. I guess the 5 minute 3d sequence will be included as a special feature on the blu ray set. They are calling it a first so I think it will be hd 3d, not anaglyph.

I do love the show, and would like to own it. But... There isn't much reason to dish out the cash when I can watch it from Netflix anytime I want. The Idea of seeing Spartacus in 3D is a cool one. But if it's just the final battle scene that is in 3D, and likely not the best looking conversion job to boot. That's not enough incentive for me to spend money on it. If the entire season was 3D, and good looking 3D...
I wonder if the 3D battle scene will find it's way to the Netfix Blu-rays. It'd be worth checking out anyway. Very curious as to how good it will look. I don't have my hopes up too high though. |

Agreed. I canceled my streaming option with the new Netflix plan. I'd much rather watch any show on Blu-ray. I also prefer to watch several episodes in a row, rather than one hour a week. But... chances are I'm not going to have the patience to wait. But I did waited for Lost, Heroes, and still waiting on the third season of Fringe... Other shows I've watched were already pretty much over by the time I started watching them.

Just watched it tonight- I was surprised by how abruptly it ended, but overall, I thought the conversion was really solid. Really good depth of field-some good pop. I did notice a couple of times that something would have REALLY popped if it had been native 3D, but on the whole, I thought it was a fun thing to have- particular for people with a 3D rig, that have not bought 3D media as yet. There are plenty of them out there. Could make a nice demo piece for people that aren't on the bandwagon.

Must be an isolated issue. I watched it on my friend's Blu-ray and the picture quality was quite fantastic. Great for a conversion job - the only odd depth I noticed was the net that one of the characters was throwing - the ropes and holes in it seemed problematic, but the remainder was good. The abrupt end was disappointing - I guess they only converted 5 minutes as a demo?

Here in the UK I got this day one and was well pleased with the result. I had no problem with the net throwing business that Mikeatron85 mentioned(don't know whether there was mastering problems in other parts of the world--maybe) but, I have to admit, the whole five minute segment passed far too quickly for a 3D buff like me.

I wouldn't consider it an issue per se... more, if there was ever an indicator that this was converted 3D, it would be during those shots (given the nature of a net, the holes/openings and ropes would have been quite difficult to rotoscope and it very briefly shows). The overall job was quite excellent though.
