I know I most definitely would. Its easily one of the most under-appreciated films the company's ever done. I remember seeing it at a sneak preview, about two weeks before its original release, and loving almost every bit of it. With a great cast and phenomenal characters, there's not a lot to dislike IMO. I know lots of literary purists were ticked over it, but I doubt any major animation studio would've ever considered a straight adaptation of the original book.

Of all the songs in the film, I think my faves are "Bells of Notre Dame", "Out There", "God Help the Outcasts", and "Someday", which plays over the ending credits. I also like the gargoyles, and was sad when I heard Mary Wickes had died. I didn't really like the sequel much at all, but I loved Jennifer Love Hewitt's song from it. Sadly, Disney seems to have a very bad habit of rushing their animated sequels, instead of taking enough time and care to do a quality job. Last edited by Moviefan2k4; 10-17-2011 at 09:30 AM. |

Count me in as well. Disney animation is very much a part of my Blu-Ray collection and The Hunchback of Notre Dame will be another welcome addition when Disney get around to releasing it again, this time for Blu-Ray. Hope it's soon, rather than later. 2016 would be its 20th Anniversary. Well worth the wait.

Absolutely! This is one of my favorite "latter year" Disney movies, and with the incredibly detailed animation and the beautiful colors and sweeping camera moves, I think this one would look INCREDIBLE on Blu-Ray. But I seriously hope we don't have to wait nearly 5 more years for it....

I adore this film so much and would absolutely buy it on Blu-ray on release date. It's my third favorite Disney film after Alice in Wonderland and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I feel the humor is rather forced and out of place, but the rest of the film more than makes up for it. It's got some of the most breathtaking cinematography ever seen in an animated film, and I believe the score is Alan Menken's strongest.
This film is one of only three Disney films mastered via the digital CAPS system that have only gotten DVD transfers from film prints (the other two being The Rescuers Down Under and Hercules). As such, a direct-from-the-digital-source transfer would be a shocking upgrade in quality. Plus, the laserdisc had a nice collection of supplements that didn't make it to DVD (three deleted songs, several song demos, multiple featurettes covering different production topics, extensive galleries, trailers, etc.). 2012 is looking a little busy what with Pocahontas, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, and the strong possibilities of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Aladdin (not to mention the rumored Robin Hood and Mulan). So I think the earliest we'll see Hunchback would be 2013. That's agonizingly long for me, but I'm hoping the eventual release would be worth it. The film deserves to be in the limelight. |

I'd definitely snatch it up on day one. It's always been underappreciated. I think it was just a bit darker than most of the Disney movies people were used to - especially the music. It felt more like a Broadway musical like Les Mis.
I'm sure we won't be waiting until 2016, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still a year or two away ![]() |

Add me to your list. I wonder what priority Disney has placed on bringing The Hunchback of Notre Dame to Blu-Ray? Released in 1996. Long way off for a 20th Anniversary Edition. Wonder when its due to be brought out from the Disney vault?

I don't know if this helps the "Vault" guesses, but "Hunchback" was released on DVD in March of 2002, and according to ultimatedisney.com, it was never sent back into the vault. It is still available.
Since it's been a decade since the original DVD release, I would imagine that any Blu-Ray release of "Hunchback" will happen without the existing one "going into the vault" until the new release is announced, like previous DVD versions of "Robin Hood" and "Oliver and Company" - both of which still had DVD editions on the shelves when the new iteration was announced. |

I love THOND, and I'd love a blu ray. If it will get a release, I imagine that the more popular Disney films will come out on blu ray first. And it makes me really mad that Disney is re-releasing Sleeping Beauty, when they should release movies that are not out on blu ray yet instead.

I didn't like it when it came out, probably because I was so young and didn't really understand it, and it was so much darker than most Disney films. I have an appreciation for it now, and I hope Disney eventually gets around to releasing it and its other underappreciated films like Hercules.

This is my favorite Disney movie, and if I had to choose only one Disney movie to own on blu-ray, this would surely be it.
It would've been nice if they had released it in 2011 as a 15th anniversary edition, but sadly no. I guess maybe we will have to wait till 2016. ![]() |
