Hiya, I've recently attempted to re-watch my copy of Cloverfield on BD only to find it stops and freezes about 3 minutes before the end credits. The disc surface appears to be in perfect condition and I can't think of anything I've done to the disc to damage it. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fit it? I don't want to re-buy it but it seems like I'll have to. Very disappointed, especially since nothing like this has happened with my other 300+ BD's.

That's a shame, I might have to fire off an email to the local distributor in hopes of getting a new (working copy) as I love the film.

Interesting. I own the UK disc which is identical in specs to the local disc. No fault for me at all and I've played it on both the Sony BDP-S360 and my Soniq.
Maybe it's just a single faulty pressing? Perhaps try returning it to the store you bought it from and getting a refund so you can buy from another store. If it is bad batch then getting a replacement from the same store may mean you get another disc from the same batch and that may be what happened to Carcuss. |

My Australian copy of cloverfield works just fine. Though I had a similar issue with the original Australian release of the fifth element on blu. I watched it 3 times not long after I bought it back in 2007 and it worked flawlessly. Then about 6 months ago I felt like watching it again but it wouldn't load up even though the disc is in perfect condition, I tested it in a few different blu-ray players still with no luck. It's only ever sat on my shelf and has never been exposed to heat, sunlight, mould etc and doesn't have any scratches or marks on it either. I have read that other Australians experienced the same problem with the original release of the fifth element and was probably the result of a bad batch which just like atexp80 said is probably the case with your copy of cloverfield too.

Exact same problem with my Cloverfield Blu - unfortunately, I didn't watch it immediately and when I discovered the problem a few days later I had already binned the receipt and couldn't get an exchange/refund. Let us know how you get on with the distributor in regards to a replacement copy (and whether it's a known problem). Good luck!

I also just checked my brothers Australian copy of cloverfield on blu-ray and it had no fault either, we watched the last 10 minutes of it and it played back perfectly. We both bought our copies when it 1st was released here in Australia a few years back.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Stars...ray/192/#Forum That thread listing shows three separate threads regarding issues with the disc. It would seem that you should try inserting a memory card/USB flash drive into your player and then testing the disc. That seems to be a widely reported remedy for the title. ![]() |

I just went and rewatched my Cloverfield Blu-ray on my PS3 for the first time in several years, and this very same problem happened to me too. The movie freezes on one of the very last scenes (
[Show spoiler] ). If I go back to the XMB and try to continue playback of the movie, the PS3 says that the video cannot be played. Restarting the disc from the beginning works, but I can't fast-forward beyond that specific point, nor skip to the Credits chapter. This is the only discussion I could find so far that describes the exact same problem. What's weird is that this never happened to me before. I bought the movie several years ago, in mid-2008 if I'm not mistaken, and the movie worked just fine on the very same PS3 back then. That leads me to believe it's caused by a system software update that happened sometime in between, but heck if I know which one. I have the US version of the Blu-ray by the way (which is region free), and I'm playing it on a European fat model PS3. Last edited by Ocin; 09-03-2011 at 06:40 PM. |

Just popped my copy in to have a look and it plays fine all the way through to the final credits. Might be Captain Obvious here, but have you tried updating your players firmware. A mate of mine had similar issues with 300 and it played perfectly well after I did this for him.

Well yes, of course. It's not like Sony gives you much choice in the matter, firmware updates are practically mandatory on the PS3. It also wouldn't explain why the disc worked fine several years before; firmware updates are supposed to improve compatibility, not reduce it. But thanks for thinking along anyway.
For the record, the surface of my disc is also fine. Not surprising, since it has been lying dormant for about three years, and I generally take good care of my stuff. So unless there's some mysterious new form of disc rot at play here, I'd say the problem is software related. |

Yeah i had this problem... It took about 10 tries of loading and ejecting the disk before the PS3 finally decided to play it. Mind you... it was a hire... so i have never seen it since.
