One gajillion!

[Show spoiler]

Seriously though, on the BD Community Stats page, it lists a whole bunch of numbers. If I read this right, there are 3,928,083 Blu-Ray releases in the US alone. I don't know where to find a total count, but if I add up the total number of BD50s and BD25s listed, it comes out to 4,409,568.

No way is 4 million. It's not even 1 million. Not even 100,000.

Why not? BDs have been around for several years now. Most new releases from 2006 onward have had high-def releases, and catalog titles are being announced all the time. And then a bunch of them get reprints. And then there are the imports, the limited editions, the steelbooks, the digibooks, exclusives etc. I could see it adding up to that many pretty fast.

Chances are that I've misread the stats and under-appreciated the immensity of this number. If somebody knows a better figure, please speak up. Because now I'm curious.

The top collector doesn't even have 4000. I wonder if there are even 10,000

IMDB only has 2.3 million titles. Doubt even 0.5% are on Blu-ray yet.

Well over half of those are individual tv episodes though.

It currently lists 277,628 features, and lots of those are foreign films (take a look at the certification number at the end of a recent film for a rough guess at the number of American feature films).

I think you may have read it wrong

Amazon.com currently has 25,416 listings for the Blu-Ray format.

Additionally, I suspect the number of unique foreign releases is a fraction of that number.

Best Buy lists over 8,000. So, world wide, I guess 100k different titles. Problems is counting re-issues and boxsets, like the 50 different Harry Potter sets and the numerous Echo Bridge Blu-rays that are single, double, and triple features.

2,300,000 x 0.5% = 11500

With dupes, I'm probably pretty close. Do I get a prize?

You can't even rely on that because most of the top collectors have titles in their collection that either have not been released yet or lack a release date altogether.

The collection statistics on this site are understandably flawed. People can create their own sub categories and call it something such as 'To buy' or 'Have watched', whilst they are not intentionally deceiving anyone the fact that it is not in the 'Wishlist' category means it adds to their collection. Then their are preorders, multiple version of the same BD and titles that never came to fruition that people add to their collections. Of course there is no way of verifying if any of what they are adding is true. I don't doubt some people have extraordinarily large collections but its also evident that a lot of people with large numbers are not telling the truth.

hahaha, the biggest collection with almost 4000 titles is owned by a guy named "rich"
i suppose its much less actual movies though, since looking at the collection he owns 7 different versions of 2012 alone!
which would support your worst taste theory

In his defense, he apparently collects steelbooks and 2012 is a film that received numerous steelbook releases worldwide.
