Release Date: 4th May 2015

Time for us to reveal the final specs for our The Long Good Friday + Mona Lisa boxset! Take a look at everything in full below and pre-order your set here: http://www.arrowfilms.co.uk/shop/ind...product_id=530

Release Date: 4th May 2015
Format: Dual Format Blu-ray + DVD
Starring: Bob Hoskins, Helen Mirren, Dave King
Directed by: John Mackenzie

Synopsis:WHO LIT THE FUSE THAT TORE HAROLD’S WORLD APART?

Harold Shand (Bob Hoskins) is a businessman with great ambitions. Spotting the development potential of London’s derelict Docklands area years before the Thatcher government, he tries to broker a deal with his American counterpart (Eddie Constantine) that will make them both millions. But who is killing Harold’s other associates and blowing up his businesses – and why?

Universally regarded as one of the greatest British gangster films ever made, The Long Good Friday rocketed Hoskins to international stardom. He’s given sterling support from Helen Mirren (as his upper-crust mistress), Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Derek Thompson (Casualty), and there’s even an early appearance from future James Bond Pierce Brosnan.
This special limited edition also includes Mona Lisa, Hoskins’ return to the gangster genre – although the kingpin here is played by a mesmerisingly slimy Michael Caine, with Hoskins merely George the chauffeur, transporting high-class prostitute (Cathy Tyson) from client to client. But when she enlists his help in tracking down an old friend, George finds himself exploring a hellish underworld that he never imagined existed.

6-DISC SPECIAL EDITION BOX SET CONTENTS:

- Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing

But it’s Hoskins’ film through and through, his towering performance taking on a Shakespearean intensity as he’s forced to resort to the down-and-dirty methods that he thought he’d put behind him in order to find out who’s muscling in on his territory on what should be the best day of his life. He quickly finds out that this will be a very long Good Friday indeed…

My most anticipated release of the year - a title it also held last year! One of my top five films of all time. Looks like my local cinema is getting the re-release - I've seen it on the big screen before but only a blow-up of the current print. If it's anything like Arrow's work on Cinema Paradiso and Withnail and I then it's going to look amazing on the big screen.

Whatever they do for the blu-ray release, I'm in. Steelbook, big Withnail-style box, plain cardboard envelope - done.

That's not the BAFTA Film Awards montage. I believe it's the TV one. And it's great he was in there - he did brilliant TV work - but he absolutely deserved to be featured in the BAFTA Film ceremony In Mermoriam.

No, you were right. That was last year's TV awards, broadcasted a month after his death. They decided to do an immediate tribute rather than wait 9 months for a tribute this year's film awards ceremony, which I think is pretty sensible considering his many TV credits. You'll notice they don't do repeat tributes, hence no appearance in this year's film awards.

Looking forward to The Long Good Friday. Will this be out before the US release or at the same time? I can't remember what Arrow said about lining up their UK and US releases...

I understand their reasoning but I don't agree with it. It's not usual for them to do a ten minute tribute to one person either but they did with Attenborough last night - and rightfully so. I can understand when it's an actor who dies before both of that years' worth and it's only a month or two apart from each ceremony (for example, it's the right choice for Mayall to be held back for the TV BAFTAs considering his work there) but it had been a long enough gap since the TV ones that no-one would have minded if they'd have fitted in a mention of one of our greatest film actors.

Still, none of it matters in the long run (according to his daughter, Hoskins wouldn't have cared) and I'm not outraged about the fact - their rules are their rules after all. I just think it's a shame. Still, on the bright side, their missing him out gave us the release date from Arrow, so every cloud!

On a local level - Rapta, are you planning on seeing it on the big screen if Harbour Lights gets it?

That bit I agree with! As for Attenborough, he was President of BAFTA for 12 years (until his death) and Vice President for 23 years (from the early 70's 'til the mid 90's) so I think that justifies his longer tribute in all honesty. Anyway, all said and done it's BAFTA's decision and I'm pretty sure most people complaining about Hoskins' omission in this year's Film ceremony are completely unaware of his inclusion in last year's TV eulogy.

I'd love to see the restoration if Harbour Lights do get it...but even then, I bet it'd just be a one-off screening. I missed the 2001: A Space Odyssey screening when it was on, which is frustrating as it's my favourite film! I guess we could always do one of those OurScreen screenings, if the film makes it onto there (which it very well could do).

I completely agree that the Attenborough tribute was justified - the Downey Jr. speech was one of my favourite moments of the whole ceremony and I got a little teary during the whole thing. All very well done and absolutely deserved. My point was that they can be flexible on how they approach tributes - I realise Hoskins is a very different case but bending their rules wouldn't have hurt. Still, as I say, it's a shame but it's their rules and I'm not on the Internet Outrage Train about it. Just think it was a missed opportunity. (And I agree that most won't know he was in the TV BAFTAs, hence their "WHY WAS HE FORGOTTEN?!" rants rather than "Why couldn't they bend their rules slightly?" posts).

Shame you missed 2001 - I saw it in Screen 2 (the smaller one) back at the start of December, the first time I'd seen it on the big screen and it blew me away, so much so I went a rebooked for the late-December screening which was put on in the bigger screen, sold out and was just stunning. I believe at the moment Long Good Friday is indeed only down for a one-off - sadly it's probably all it'll justify with the business it will generate - but it's definitely better than nothing. Arrow don't seem to have joined the OurScreen revolution yet so I hope you'll be able to make the general screening if/when it happens.

Well that was quick! Just so happens a screening at Harbour Lights was announced earlier today...shame it's at 6:15PM though, might not be able to make it:

I like TLGF, it's a really good, gritty British gangster flick, with some excellent acting from BH - a genuine cult classic, and destined to be from day 1.

But Mona Lisa is a better film.

Hopefully the two will be getting a simultaneous release - perhaps together in a box.

I doubt they will be, or Mona Lisa would be announced at the same time. Word on the street is Arrow are releasing it though - just probably not as a double-set like I'd have expected.

Hope for a steelbook release for this one, also hopefully the soundtrack is included so I can get rid of my DVD set.

I very, very rarely go to the cinema but I may just try and catch this film if it comes down my way?

My local cinema (Eden Court, Inverness) said they'd be showing it in April. I can't wait, haven't seen it yet.
