Default 'Say Anything...' Sequel a Possibility

Quote:
Cameron Crowe Discusses ‘Say Anything’ Sequel

After a six year hiatus, Cameron Crowe is about to come back in a big way with three films released in five months: The music documentaries Pearl Jam Twenty and The Union as well as the narrative film, We Bought A Zoo. Like all of his previous films, though, these are singular stories. Crowe’s never been much of as a sequel guy. However, during the annual Television Critics Association press tour, when asked if he’d ever do a sequel to Say Anything, Crowe said the following:

Quote:
I do kind of think there might be another chapter to that. I’ve thought about it from time to time, and talked to John Cusack about it. Lloyd Dobler might be back. It’s the only thing I’ve written that I would consider doing that with.
Say Anything 2 is obviously just a pipe dream at this point but the fact that Crowe has discussed it with Cusack means he probably has a decently formed idea. And while I’d normally trust Cameron Crowe on this, would you ever really want to know what happened following the “Bing” on the plane at the end of Say Anything? It’s a pretty perfect ending.

This is the only Cameron Crowe movie I've ever wanted a sequel to...I hope it happens.

Thumbs up

Lloyd Dobler: "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that."

Lloyd Dobler: "What I really want to do with my life - what I want to do for a living - is I want to be with your daughter. I'm good at it."

Lloyd Dobler: [leaving the last of a series of messages on Diane's answering machine] "Maybe I didn't really know you. Maybe you were just a mirage. Maybe the world is full of food and sex and spectacle and we're all just hurling towards an apocalypse, in which case it's not your fault. I'm been thinking about all these things and... you're probably standing there monitoring. And one more thing - about the letter. Nuke it. Flame it. Destroy it. - It hurts me to know it's out there. Later."

I agree. I always wondered after they got on that plane...Did Llyod ever do anything with his life? Did they stay together? I wonder if Jim ever got out or prison? So many questions. These are all characters I'd love to visit again. Hey, maybe they can even find a bigger part for Jeremy Piven!

Dang, now I have to watch the movie again - Some of the scenes ya'll are mentioning, I'm like . I DO have the new (20th Anniv.) version & hadn't watched it yet, but this IS one of my all-time fav movies, along with ALMOST FAMOUS.

Hmmm, Both of which were written Incredibly well by the great Cameron Crowe.

This should remain a stand alone, what's next?

Sequels to The Breakfast Club and Feris Buehler?

Well...Ferris Bueller might be getting one anyway, and Breakfast Club was at one time a possibility until John Hughes and Judd Nelson had a falling out. The movie ended up dying after that.

Broderick needs to reteam with Alexander Payne.

Then do another great comedy, I love Election.

Didn't know that the late John Hughes and Judd Nelson had a beef.

Think he appeared with Ringwald and the others for his memorial tribute.

At the Oscars.

They patched things up later, but at that point it was too late for The Breakfast Club sequel to happen. It was supposed to be at their ten year reunion. Ferris and Say Anything are the only two that I can see getting sequels. The Ferris Bueller 2 script is actually pretty solid...

One of my top 20 favorite movies ever and because of that I don't want a sequel. Leave them in 1988 with our own opinions of what happened.

Lloyd returns! Cameron Crowe may be doing 'Say Anything…' sequel After All

Cameron Crowe may have decided to make the oft-rumoured “Say Anything” sequel.

A few months back the “We Bought a Zoo” director mentioned that if he was to sequelize any of his films – his filmography also boasts such titles as “Jerry Maguire”, “Singles”, “Elizabethtown”, “Almost Famous”, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”, “Vanilla Sky” and the aforesaid Matt Damon starrer – it’d be his ode to blossoming romances and boom-boxes. Suggesting that it was merely an idea, and one he may have spoken to “Say Anything” star John Cusack about, Crowe managed to persuaded we fans (via a later interview with the IFC) that it’s probably something that’ll never happen and he hadn’t even considered pitching it.

But the ex-hubby of songstress Nancy Wilson sings a different tune today. Speaking to Vulture, the former Rolling Stone journalist cum filmmaker says something may be cooking. Crowe hints that the film might be more of a spin-off than anything, even hinting at the possibility of structuring the film around Loren Dean’s ‘Joe’ character. Joe, you’ll recall, was the dimish ex-boyfriend of Lili Taylor’s character Corey, who wrote some 65 songs about her beloved former beau.

Quote:
…[It'd be] something more with Lloyd’s character or one of the side characters…I love Joe — c’mon, man, Loren Dean? It’s almost like there’s an author that you like, and he brings back a character from a previous story. Like, Salinger, even. There’s a shadow of a previous story, but characters that you knew, sort of. And you go off on this tributary to another story with them. That’s how I would do a Say Anything sequel. I have ideas where Lloyd would be — but let me surprise you with it.
Crowe avoided answering a question on whether or not Lloyd Dobler (Cusack) would still be a kickboxer. Interestingly enough, nobody’s even brought up Ione Skye reprising Diane Court.

Whatever the case, Crowe told Vulture that in a year-and-a-half there may be news on “Say Anything 2″.

i'd be open to a story about Joe and his quickstop buddies 25 years later. Doubt i'd want to see Lloyd or Diane though. Maybe a quick cameo like he bumps into Lloyd coming out of a store. That's about it though. Most great stories are cheapened with sequels.
