OK this is a thread to list your favorite picture-in-picture experiences for BD's you got. The worst is when they just place the camera on a person/group of people and have them talking while looking at a screen (Casino Royale PiP commentary, anyone?). But some of these can be very well done.
Here are ones I saw and liked: 1. T2: Judgement Day - I was disappointed with the transfer on the Skynet edition (either too much DNR or not a proper HD scan) but the extras were great and this one was the best. The only hitch I'd say that it constantly featured a menu at the top and required you to activate certain features but good payoff. 2. The Matrix - the 10th Ann BD has an excellent PiP overlay with lots of production snippets showing how they shot many of the scenes and talky input from many the collaborators in the film 3. Up - The commentary track is accompanied by tons of amazing concept art and rough animation overlays. Very re-watchable for me. 4. Sherlock Holmes - the movie is just light popcorn but the PiP feature is amazingly well done with tons of overlays and input from multiple screens. Great show from Guy Ritchie, who pauses scenes and goes on to show you behind-the-scenes stuff before getting back to the main feature. Reason in itself to get the BD if you like this sort of thing. It'd be interesting to see how this sort of interaction would work for a more serious movie, say a critic dissecting a Bergman movie. |
