Will it be Region Free? It is listed as PAL.

But will it play on my Denon 3800 BDCI, and transfer to my Pioneer Plasma or when I get my Projector, that is the big question.

Amazingly, over 3 years after the launch of the blu-ray format, the world's largest internet retailer of DVDs and blu-rays still just copies over the DVD details for a blu-ray release.

While some standard definition extra features may be in PAL, the movie will be in 1080p high-def. The release is from Warner, and Warner almost never region locks. But the North American rights to DWW is held by MGM, so it's best to wait until after the release when it can be confirmed that Warner is not forced to lock it to region B.

You know the number of Warner BD titles from the UK that are region locked?

Zero.

Even The Prestige (which was a Disney title in the US, and region-locked to A) was region-free in the UK.

And all the extras on Warner's Blu-rays are NTSC-friendly.

Amazon are showing the running time as 227 minutes. That suggests that it's the full 4-hour version of DWW that is being released, although of course Amazon are mindlessly showing the equivalent speeded-up playing time for a Region 2 PAL DVD rather than the correct running time that the BD will have.

Anyway I will want to know for sure which cut of the film is being released before I order it. (I suppose it's too much to expect that they will give us both cuts via seamless branching.)

Yes. Zero. So far. But they have region locked a few releases in Germany, so I was being cautious.

According to the Amazon listing, it's 227 minutes, the extended version. Seamless branching would be nice.

You have a point. Better to be cautious and only order after having 100% confirmation.

Yes, but Warner is not too big on seamless branching (see Amadeus etc).

Yes, for those with region locked players.

Well, options are always good. But, yes, not Warner's forte. And Dances With Wolves is one of my favorites, so I bought the excellent Kinowelt German (Region B) release some time which is the 227 minute Director's Cut, which I prefer.

This is great news. Hopefully this means that a U.S. version is in the works to be released soon.

That was why I asked to start with and why I really didn't want to order until we had the actual release information.

Why don't you make it easier for yourself and just but a Region B Blu-ray player. Then you'd have one for Region A titles and one for Region B titles. I did this, and it's one of the smartest things I've ever done. I don't have to worry about that region locking nonsense anymore.

My Blu-ray player is a highly modified and expensive Denon 3800 BDCI. Additionally, with all of the components, players, etc. I am running out of space, shelves, and hook ups when I include such things as my Turntable, AM/FM tuner, etc.

Back to topic,

As I said, I'm 99% certain that Dances with Wolves UK will be region free and that all extras will be 60Hz-friendly.
