Here’s what I’m wondering. I see threads like the “grain lovers” thread or “the impossible ruined the movie for you” thread and it got me wondering.
How many of you out there are distracted by stuff like this during a movie?? When I go to the theater or watch a movie @ home for the 1st time…..my focus is on the movie itself, what’s happening, what was just said, or who did what. The last thing on my mind is “look @ all the grain in that shot” or “how the hell does Superman fly??” or even “why would they do go upstairs after recv’ing a phone call like that?” When I read comments like this it makes me sad. It’s as if people can’t sit back and watch a movie and just be entertained. There is always going to be something to fault a movie for but what’s the point of fixating on it?? Why not sit back and enjoy the rest of the movie and see what kind of impression it can leave on you?? I wonder if this is why I’m not all that disappointed by the majority of movies that I watch. ![]() I’m really curious to see what others think about this. |

depends on the person most likely. unfortunately for me I'm a reviewer for a couple sites so my JOB is to pretty much pick apart movies both visually/audio wise as well as story wise. and of course, after a while that bleeds through into your regular watching as well

Depends on what is in the movie.
Like transforms: Revenge of the Fallen and bring sam to life. It is so retarded and LOL worthy that it does distract. Or Gary Oldham in Leon when he goes beyond overacting and it becomes Hilarious does distract me from the movie. Or all the Lame romances that seem to creep in to every single bloody movie. ![]() |

![]() i just find it interesting some of the things people pick out of a movie that they complain about. i'm guilty of it too.....but i tend to pick things up after a couple of viewings....not the 1st time. ![]() |

I'm usually hard to distract. Most of the time, I tend to overlook most plot holes, inconsistencies, and whatnot. Issues with all three Transformers movies never once bothered me. The complaints about the Braveheart battle scenes never bothered me (still don't know what's wrong with them). Same for most superhero movies, action movies, sci-fi, and what not.
However, my attention could start to wander on movies I'm already well-acquainted with, or if it's something really slow or boring. Even then, I tend to look for unusual details and stuff, rather than problems. Last time I watched Dune, my attention wandered during one scene, and I noticed some guy off to the side had a tube sticking out of his mouth. I was like, wtf? ![]() |

I don't really like to talk about it but I've been diagnosed with ADD so naturally I have problems focusing on a movie.
It's usually just with long narratives. It's hard for me to keep up with what people are saying. Especially in strange dialogues. It's one of the reasons I use subtitles for talky movies. |

I dont notice such things unless I'm really not into the movie. I do, however, get distracted by anyone in the theater texting orhaving their phone light up for any reason. and I have no problem walking over to someone elses seat to chastise them and make them stop.

If a character does something in a movie that I don't think fits their character then I acknowledge it and see it as a fault, but it doesn't distract me from the rest of the film. Usually plot holes/inconsistencies don't annoy me, if I'm not enjoying a movie then a plot hole is just going to make me dislike it more, but if I'm enjoying it then I'm willing to suspend my disbelief to some extent (a good example would be in Breaking Bad where
[Show spoiler] ). My biggest distraction is subtitles being out of sync, that takes me right out of a movie.

I never get the whole makeup thing/voice. Like when people said they couldn't get into Looper because of JDL's nose or couldn't get into Cloud Atlas, mostly because of Weaving's nurse & Asian characters. Or Bale's Batman voice. I didn't even notice JDL's nose until I read about it on this site. And I have to admit, I was trying to figure out which actor was playing which character in Cloud Atlas but it didn't take me out of the movie. I mean people in real life have funny voices & might have features you find odd, what do you do then?
I agree with bad CGI but it has to be really bad like the horse scene in Abe Lincoln Vampire Slayer |

No & Yes(see below), only rude & unkind people do, that's why I have not been to a theatre in ages!
I still have my DVDs & BDs. ![]() However, I do distract myself(hint: King-Pause Hahaha). Last edited by hagios; 05-17-2013 at 08:50 PM. |

I am a easy to please lover of blu ray. I love the format because it allows me to have an amazing experience at home, but I never would even notice the small gripes with picture quality I have seen others discuss here. With me, it is simply, that looks amazing, or that looks terrible, or somewhere in between, but the insane level of detail people observe with picture quality is strange to me.
I have my moments where I am taken aback by how good a shot looks or whatever, but then I go right back into full blown movie watching mode. The content of the film should be the focus, not the grain or the level of blacks or whatever. |

Shaky cam = worst thing in a movie, ever! I've seen people fight in real life. The entire Earth doesn't move around like that. Really hard to suspend disbelief while seeing that. |
