Disney Soul (2020) [No 3D Blu-ray]

Standard fare from Pixar no doubt.

No doubt, but the potential for some very nice 3D is evident from the trailer. I wouldn't go near it in 2D though.

Well now that the film has been moved to being free for Disney plus viewers to watch at home on Christmas Day instead of getting a proper theatrical release I guess most of us will never even get the chance to see this movie in 3d at all

Cross your fingers for a 3D Blu-ray in the UK. Since the 3D is almost assuredly 100% done, a release wouldn't be hard to put together.

If we get a regular bluray and 4k release than maybe the uk will get a 3d bluray however due to the fact that Disney is releasing this movie for free to Disney plus subscribers unlike what they did with mulan then Im thinking its more likely this stays a completely Disney plus exclusive movie with no psychical or digital release whatsoever except for being released to Disney plus

Disney would be crazy not to release a Pixar movie on physical media. They would miss out on so much money. No doubt the 3D rendering is already done. I'm sure it will play in China in 3D. Hopefully we still get a UK Blu-ray 3D too. I don't see how theaters can stay open any longer until there is a vaccine though.

If Pixar offered Soul in strong 3D for most of the film, I'd consider it. But Pixar likes milder 3D unfortunately most times; probably so anyone new to 3D doesn't get any eye strain which is not a good reason to flatten out the 3D IMO. They should take a note from Disney CGI animated 3D films, which have slightly stronger 3D presentations on average. But they should really take inspiration from nWave studios with their consistently stronger 3D films like Turtle's Tale 1 and 2, House of Magic, etc.

Yeah, it really stinks what's happening with theaters. When I went to see Tenet in theaters in September, I was in a near empty theater and the parking lot wasn't very full. It was sad to see but understandable too.

Regal theaters have closed again as of October 8th, 2020 and won't reopen until things improve with the virus situation, citing the declining theatrical climate and business closures.

That stinks.

I heard Cinemark and other theaters including AMC, are losing many millions of dollars and playing old movies isn't going to work IMO. I have most of the old movies on home video so there's little chance I'd feel inspired to rewatch them in a theater. The new movies are what draw me to the theater along with the big screen combined with 3D too.

Well get a disc... Probably not an international 3D disc... Disney needs to generate additional revenue from the title somewhere, and free on Disney+ is not going to do it, VOD will earn some, but not enough to help break even...

Also with regards to Artemis Fowl and The One and Only Ivan were not regarded well, and went direct to Disney+ for more reasons than lack of theaters.

You're not going to just dump a Pixar release.

If there's no 3D disc there's no reason to buy. This goes for all 3D movies.

I can't find anywhere that confirms this was going to be a 3D movie?

Neither can I. Checked all the regular sites: no mention of 3D. Neither IMDB or NATO show it as a 3D production.

I think it could have been based on Pixar's trackrecord of releasing all of their CGI animated films in 3D. But with the current situation, it's unclear since theaters are a major reason for the 3D treatment. Without theaters being open, the push for 3D may not be there. Not good. Regal theaters just re-closed their doors.

I'll try to support Cinemark but the new movies appearing are barely trickling in. Liam Neeson will be in Honest Thief next weekend which I'll see. Unfortunately, no 3D films the whole year so far in my theaters due to the lock down other than early 2020.

It has also been removed from http://cms.pro.boxoffice.com/statist...lease-calendar

That site is now showing Croods and Black Widow as being the only remaining 3D movies for 2020... and I wouldn't even bank on that as screwed up as the whole movie industry is at this point.

Mulan played in 3D in China, Russia, Turkey, and probably more countries. I'm sure Soul will do the the same. Regarding Artemis Fowl, it had a 3D trailer, but I don't know if the whole movie ever received a full 3D conversion. I've found no 3D credits for it or theatrical playdates.

Looks like Soul premiered in 2D at the London Film Festival with great reviews. It plays at the Rome Film Festival on October 15.

Bob Chapek announced a realignment of its business divisions on Monday that placed the focus squarely on Disney+ and its other streaming services as the future of the company’s creative efforts.

It seems that the 3D in Disney is over

Oh well we had a great run and at least Disney mostly kept 3D support going when most other studios dropped it.

I'm most grateful we got all the Phase 3 Marvel films in 3D - top notch 3D in pretty much all of them.
