Name theatrical versions of films you appreciate more than the directors cut/revision.
Star Wars OT Star Trek 6 Lord of the Rings, while I like some of the new content less is more with the EE. Conan the Barbarian |

Definitely Avatar.
As much as I love the movie, I am not willing to sit through almost 3 hours of it every single time! Maybe once in a while when I am in the mood for something epic, but I am more than happy with the cinema edit. ![]() |

Blade Runner, with seven versions in circulation it's hard to keep track, still fondly remember the version I watched in a cinema in 1982 with voiceover.

Star Wars (theatrical version is perfect!)
The Empire Strikes Back (theatrical version is perfect!) Return of the Jedi (theatrical version is perfect!) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (the SEE has great scenes, but also very bad ones. I go for the pacing, and the theatrical version delivers in that regard. The SEE also takes away a lot of surprises) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (the SEE has great scenes, but also very bad ones. I go for the pacing, and the theatrical version delivers in that regard. The SEE also takes away a lot of surprises) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (the SEE has great scenes, but also very bad ones. I go for the pacing, and the theatrical version delivers in that regard. The SEE also takes away a lot of surprises) American Gangster (the extended cut slows it down even more) Alien (perfect the way it is) Donnie Darko (the DC explains too much and I don't like the music changes) Dawn of the Dead (1978) (theatrical version is perfect and it is Romero's real DC!) Terminator 2: Judgment Day (the extended cut is great, but the pacing lacks big time) Sin City (re-cut sucks and takes away all the fun) E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (no CGI crap etc.) Apocalypse Now (perfect pacing) Grindhouse (way better than the extended versions of each movie) Rambo (the theatrical version is great as it is) Halloween (1978) (don't like the extended TV cut) Avatar (again, the extended version offers good scenes, but they are not necessary and the pacing suffers) Residen Evil: Apocalypse (the german extended version adds too much humor and it seems choppy. The editing is much better in the theatrical version) King Kong (Peter Jackson) (The theatrical version is one of the greatest movies ever, but the extended cut draaaaaags) The Exorcist (I like the DC but the theatrical wins, because it is a psychological horrorfilm and the theatrical is just more subtle, which suits the tone of the film better imo) Drag Me to Hell (nothing major changed, but I loved the "kitty-scene" so much and it's gone in the unrated version ![]() Dances with Wolves (again just for the pacing) Last edited by BladeRunner2007; 09-14-2011 at 12:30 AM. |

But the extended cut is only 16 extra minutes... so regardless, you're going to be sitting through almost 3 hours anyway.

I would say Anchor Man as well, but it has been a while since I have seen either version. In general, I think theatrical comedies are better. |
