MTV

i've had it blocked on our cable box for the last 10 years or so because I don't even know what it is anymore. I miss shows that revolved around music videos, or even when the Real World was an interesting social experiment of mostly well-to-do people. I don't remember the early launch years but MTV from 88-97 was great.

Unhappy I miss awesome TV.

I really miss watching Nickelodeon and MTV when they didn't suck. I miss a whole bunch of things, jelly shoes, certain foods, buying SNES games that just came out... I'd hate to be a kid now, for many reasons.

Nothing at all. In fact, personally and professionally it was the worst decade of my life.

The movies. Maybe not so big on deep cinematic artwork or anything, but CGI special effects were still mostly-new, so movies in the 90s did a fantastic job of implementing them in inventive ways and still coming up with good (or at least fun) stories. Between "Jurassic Park," "T2," "Independence Day," "The Matrix," and oodles more, I was rarely disappointed in 90s flicks.

The music. At the time, I was all into the pop music, and I think some of the best pop songs came from the 90s. New pop music has become quite noisy and raunchy. Old pop music had become outmodish. But the 90s seems just right at times. Of course, the 90s also had its share of decent rock (especially with the emergence of grunge), dance, techno, and toward the end of the 90s, metal (I never got into any metal until after 2000; some of my favorite bands of today did thrive well in the 90s though).

TV wasn't too bad either. "The Simpsons" and "Friends" had their heyday back then. "That 70s Show," "Third Rock from the Sun," "Titus," and "Futurama" are all favorites of mine still. My favorite era of "SNL" is the late 90s era. Anime was on the rise toward the end of the 90s too. Also, it seems like commercials of the 90s were way funnier than commercials today.

Video games. While I do enjoy the modern market a lot, everything was still progressing in the 90s; we got everything from 16-bit to fully-rendered 3-D throughout the decade. And all the way, games were fun, usually had good stories, and were usually well-designed.

The times themselves were interesting. I don't remember ever fearing the threat of war, climate change, social change, or anything else that likewise troubles modern times. If anything, the times always felt stable and optimistic to me, especially with the advents of rising new technologies. Of course, I was just a kid back then, so I was probably oblivious to any of the darker or more troublesome aspects of the 90s (...aside from the Y2K issue ).

Proper Hip-Hop.

It died back in the early 90's.

I miss the 6 NBA Championship run by the Chicago Bulls.
I miss when the Jacksonville Jaguars were a good football team.
I miss how music back then had real talented artists. Nowadays anyone can be an musician.
I miss all the classic SNES games, N64, and PS games.
I miss the time when I was a kid that doesn't have to deal responsibilities.

I grew up in the 90's so I think it was my favorite decade especially 1999.

I use to say the same thing. I am a child of the 90s, but i say those things no more. You have to dig deeper, real hip hop does exist. It aint dead. It never died.

If you can get your hands on some ' in ya mellow tone ' compilation albums, you will see what i mean.

There's some good music out today, but it's not the same. I'm very picky though since 2000 to what type of Hip-Hop music I listen to.

I have a picky ear for hip hop as well. Everything has to follow a specific formula for me. But in the end, it should have some kinda jazz influence or be chillout with deeper lyrics. Real life stuff we can relate to or something more abstract. Nujabes is one of my favortie producers. Too bad he is making beats only God can hear. Rest his soul.

Not anyone in particular and mostly just some stuff that I see on TV or on youtube. I'm not really a fan, but I appreciate some of it. It's like heavy metal...I used to love it, but now I rarely listen to it. Too damned loud for me. Occasionally though I will rock out to some early Black Sabbath and stuff.

Whatever form it takes....music is wonderful. So enjoy what you enjoy!

I have a few more to add.

SNES --i agree with everyone who added this. I own all 3 current consoles but they can't touch the SNES when it comes to gaming enjoyment.

the NBA from 90-98 -- prime MJ, Shaq, Iverson, Rodman, cool shoes, cool looking jerseys, NBA on NBC.

the alternative music boom from 89-95. Even the bands I disliked then sound good on the radio now compared to today's rock. LOL

not to mention the shows I used to watch (i don't catch many shows today). Wings, the TGIF shows (early 90s), My So Called Life, etc.

The NBA on NBC theme music is straight classic!
