Default Advertising for BD in Australia/Asia

Just thought I'd let you guys know what's happening in this area of the world.

Should point out we're usually about roughly a year or so behind the US as far as technology goes.

Thought some of you might be itnerested to know that in this neck of the woods the blu-ray advertising campaign has suddenly stepped up massively over teh last month with Spidey 3 being released.

In JB HiFi (Australia's biggest audio/visual retailer) there is blu-ray advertising everywhere, banners hanging from ceilings, larger catalogue of movies, lots of TV advertising on network television and literally NOTHING about HD-DVD anywhere.

You would think that in a very sophisticated/developed market like Australia (i.e. where much like America there is a lot of consumer spending) if HD-DVD were serious about their product, they wold be fighting head to head against BR.

But seriously, there's like a tiny stall of HD-DVD's of probably about 15-20 titles. That's it.

I suppose, Asia is a market that heavily favours Sony over Microsoft (i.e. Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia are all Sony strongholds) so perhaps M$ are just giving up before the battle has been even begun here?

Either way, definitely good news for BR supporters. But do you think represents HD-DVD giving up by way of not trying to win new (and lucrative) markets? Or do you think HD-DVD is merely consolidating its focus on the US in the hope that if they win that market, the flow-on effect will win all the others? (i.e. if all the US based studios turn to HD-DVD then HD-DVD wins ALL global markets by default).

hmmm....
