Default Sony Vs The World

I have been pricing new HD TV's 50"+ 1080p, and have noticed an incredible difference in price between sony and everyone else, Samsung in particular. There sets are, on average, about $1000 more, I saw on Sony Style a 70" TV for $32.000!!!!!!!!!, is that a missprint? Are the Bravia sets really that much better then Panasonic? I like there TV's but when Samsung has a 60" for under $2,000 and Sony has a 46" for over $2,000 one has to wonder.

You can get the new 60" A3000 at Best Buy for $2,089. That's not a bad deal. Add it to your cart to get the extra $110 dollars off:

Sony and LCDs are just like Pioneer and plasmas. They are both more expensive but you get a superior product in my opinion. Are they worth it that is up to you. But I think they are after messing around with them. Since you cannot tell from a display at a store without tweaking it.

Nice, I find the 60" A2000 to be gorgeous to look at. Just stunning. I bet the A3000 is even better! :-)

Default Sony is best in industry

What I tell my customer when comparing Sony to others is that no TV can really compare to it. Many customers can't justify the difference in price, but Sony has the best back light in the industry, they are brightest and have added features that other TV's don't have. When buying a Sony you can be assured it will be the brightest of TV's, it is made with the best parts and if something were to go wrong (and you didn't buy the in-store warranty), they have the best tech support out there. Samsung is close to Sony quality, so is Panasonic, but none can really compare to a Sony.
Every time I sell an LG, I can be sure it will break within a few months or end up getting returned within the30 day return period, every time I sell a Toshiba, there is high risk of problems down the road. Plasma's, nice TV's, but the power supply is likely to go. Only Plasma's I would sell are Panasonic and maybe Hitachi. Only LCD's are Samsung, Sony, and I rather sell Vizio over LG. ...I don't only sell those, I really sell what the customer wants, just saying what I prefer.
I admit the 70" Sony price is ridicules; however, anything under 60" is reasonable.
I'm not saying Sony is perfect, as they too have had problems and recalls; however, as of now they have proven to be among the best.

The 70" you are referring to is actually the LCD. You can find a 70" SXRD XBR for just under 5,000. You were most likely comparing the LCD to a rear projection, which would be much cheaper to begin with.

If picture quality is your hot button, I'll go with Sony! In my opinion they made the best LCD TV by far, no one even come close. Sony also made the best rear projection SXRD display, I own the 70" XBR2 at home and after getting use to looking at it for 9 months and seeing other large display (60"+)in many different stores and my friends house, I can tell you Sony's TV does stand out to be the best. I can identify so many picture problems with other brands display. I would love to have the 70" XBR5 next year.

Don't forget that most of the components made for these Sony LCD TV's are manufactured by Samsung. I little food for thought.

Samsung LCD with the LED backlight are more expensive than the Sony LCD. The Samsung LCD with the fluorescent backlight is about the same as the Sony LCD.

I think we are getting SXRD mixed up with LCD in this thread too. I agree that LCOS is the best rear projection tv. Sony's version is SXRD and JVC's version is DILA. Philips used to make the LCOS and RCA as well. The Philips LCOS was the best picture I've ever seen. A shame they quit making it.

I think Sony and JVC have perfected the LCOS technology. I would say with LCD the Samsung 71 series is awesome. I would say better than the Sony XBR series. The Samsung 81 series has the LED backlight. I would wait on those until they've been out a while. The 81 series does not have the 120Hz refresh rate. I'm willing to bet once Samsung includes the 120Hz refresh rate and LED backlight to the same model series that will be a very awesome LCD.

No not DLP, I think folks were comparing SXRD to LCD, and well maybe a few were comparing DLP in the mix. I'm not a fan of DLP been there done that and had problems with 3 of those sets 2 were Samsung and one was RCA. Come to think of it I've never had a problem with a Sony TV. I think there are some bad eggs out there, but I saw a 40" 71 series Samsung LCD and it looked sweet. I would definitely get the 52" version of the 71 series.

I know there was a deal a few years ago between Samsung and Sony where Samsung handled the LCD side and I forget which technology Sony handled for Samsung, maybe none. I forget been a while back.

joint venture plant.
samsung is "owner" cus its cheaper to own and operate the facility in korea than japan.
from what i understand alot of the agreement was they get to use most of sony's tech in the plant, except for anything dealing with the bravia processor.

so yeah "samsung" makes it.. but not really.

I know LG makes many components for TV's out there. The one's I've heard have many LG components are Phillips and Magnavox. The Samsung Rep also tells us that they make the LCD part for Sony, and the Sony rep agrees; however, the back light and other components are by Sony.

That explains it. There is something extra to the Sony it seems. It's the build quality, the integration between the Sony components, that just seems to work together cleanly and easily like an Apple computer. It all just works very well together, is well made, well crafted, lasts forever, and with tremendous quality results. I had a nice Philips 60" big screen and my Sony 60" really puts it to shame.
