This is another one of those games like PS All Stars where I'm buying the game on PS3 as my priority, and if I can get this for about 15, maybe 20 or less I will. Otherwise it'll go on my black friday shopping list. Not to mention I have a lot more PS3 friends to play online with compared to Vita owners.

I'm completely aware of that. I guess I'll spell this out: I'm not paying $100 for the same game twice. PS All stars, even though I don't really prefer the Vita version to be digital, is a good approach - $60 for both. If NFS Most Wanted does NOT do that or a bundle with a steep discount (like say $75 for both versions), I will NOT buy the Vita version until it is on sale.

And as far as I know we haven't even SEEN the Vita version in action so don't even know how good/bad it is...

There were videos from E3 of people playing the demo units running it on Vita.

EDIT: Nevermind I didn't pay any attention to where I was and totally misread that last post. Barely anything was seen from Madden and then we get a demo so hopefully there will be a NFS demo too. Not that I won't be buying it on Vita regardless but at least it will be something to know what to expect from. Wouldn't mind if it was a totally different game sharing the same name TBH.

Vita info...they claim first open world vita game, and it's the exact same as ps3, every detail.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/08/...tas-hidden-gem

Quote:
“This is going to be the best racing game on Vita this year.” It’s a bold statement, but one that Alex Ward, Vice President of Criterion, doesn’t make lightly. He’s talking about the Vita version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which is being shown for the first time at Gamescom, and it’s no surprise he’s happy about what the development team has achieved with the game.

Incredibly, the Vita version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted is essentially the same as the PS3 and Xbox 360 games. “Everything from what we the ‘TV game’ is here on the small screen,” he announces. And when he says everything, he means it – every highway, back street, bridge and tunnel. All of the cars, the meet-ups, the challenges and the drive-through garages – they’re all in the game, and importantly they haven’t been cut down or changed to fit the Vita.

“This is pretty much the PS3 version of the game shoehorned onto Vita very tightly,” he continues. “This is a very technically ambitious thing to do - there aren’t any open-world games on Vita so far. To keep the world the same, to not make any compromises – that’s what we’ve done.”

So when you get behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in Need for Speed Vita it’ll feel exactly the same as it does on PS3. The handling is just as sharp and responsive, the drifting as perfectly pitched, which is impressive considering the differences between two machines. “On handheld the physics are very hard to get right because you’re very limited on memory but the handling is pretty much the same,” explains Ward. “We can do the same demo on Vita that we can on PS3.”

Better still, all of the detail from the home console game is carried over too, so as a race progresses your car gets scuffed and scraped, and damaged with every knock it takes. There will be races at different times of the day too, and while Criterion is still hard at work populating the city and implementing many of the features, we did see the switch from daytime to dusk, with your car’s headlights flickering into action to illuminate the tarmac ahead.

Impressively, Ward promises that all of the cars will feature in the game, and they look fantastic on Vita’s small but punchy screen. “These cars are the best cars ever to appear in a Need for Speed game,” he enthuses, “and they’re the same here as they are on PS3 and 360. To get them onto Vita like this is ******* insane.” And like its bigger brother, Vita’s recreation of the city of Fairhaven will be littered with supercars waiting to be found. Stumbled upon a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S? Simply jack it and it’s yours to keep.

Multiplayer will be fully supported, with all of the modes and challenges making the jump onto Sony’s handheld. Unfortunately cross-play isn’t going to feature – the idea of PS3 and Vita owners going head-to-head was a little too ambitious – but it will fully support Autolog. So when you race on the Vita version – or indeed any version of the game, including iPad – you’re constantly earning Speed Points that accumulate on your Autolog profile, all of which help bump you up the Most Wanted leaderboards.

Need for Speed will make use of Vita’s unique functionality too, and the touchscreen can be used to quickly access HUD information in the middle of a race. But Ward was quick to iterate that it won’t impact how the game plays, and that thankfully “you won’t be driving using the touchscreen.” Or the gyro, we hope.

Most Wanted on Vita is an ambitious project, then, but one whose ambition is more than matched by the talent of the developer behind the game. Criterion’s racing pedigree is unquestionable, and with Hot Pursuit and now Most Wanted it’s brought the Need for Speed name back to the top of its game. While some developers outsource handheld versions of big franchises to enable them to focus on the home console versions, it’s a testament to Criterion’s commitment that it kept the project to itself. “It would’ve been really easy to do Vita out of house,” says Ward. “We did that on some of our previous games. But when I saw the specs for the Vita, I knew we had to do it.”

I’m thankful they chose to do it, too.
Dems some strong words and lofty expectations.....but if true....

They also mentioned the new cross buy initiative. But I highly doubt third party publishers will participate.

When I heard that it was the same game as the PS3, I got really excited. Time will tell but I can't wait to see more about this game.

More news from Gamecon via Destructiod.

Need For Speed Most Wanted is such a fun racing game. Criterion has created a perfect racing experience that's just jam packed with a ton of content.

There's so much content that Kinect might actually make itself useful for once with the voice commands feature. You'll be able to give out commands instead of using the d-pad to select from the racing menu, saving you time and letting you concentrate completely on driving. You can select what race you want to do, to even modding your car on the fly with voice commands. One example I was given was that you can switch to offroad tires on the fly so your car can handle better offroading.

With the Vita, Criterion was determined to bring the console experience over to the handheld. The whole open world, all the cars, the multiplayer -- it's all there just like the console/PC versions. The only sacrifices that have been made is that the multiplayer is limited to four players instead of 12, and some races will see one less AI competitor involved. Visually the game was looking great. Not as pretty as the other versions, but still impressive on the Vita. Criterion is also shooting for 30 frames per second for all versions of the game.

Autolog will also tie together the Vita and PlayStation 3 versions. You can earn XP on the go, and then see that applied to the PS3 version.
The console versions in general just looks gorgeous. I know it's not a Burnout, but I will miss the total destruction that comes with crashing cars. Cars can smash into each other, causing them to get disabled until respawn still, and they do get somewhat dinged up. Just nothing as crazy as Burnout Paradise. It's a minor issue for me in any case.

Most Wanted is everything Burnout Paradise was and so much more. It's about getting into the action fast, and always trying to stay on top amongst your friends.

I think they should at least do like MLB 12: The Show did, where if you buy the PS3 version you can also get the Vita version for $19.99. I think that is totally fair. That way a person can have physical copies of both. They can't expect people to pay $100 + tax for one game. A discount for buying both is almost a no-brainer.

I hope they go with the Cross Buy. I know you hate digital versions... but I would gladly take a free digital version of this game when I buy the PS3 one.

You shut your yap.

Either way, the general consensus is most people don't want to pay $100+ for the combined package. EA should recognize this. I'm really wanting to see the Vita prosper and things like this could make or break it in the long run.

Heh, yeah pretty much. EA is the type to put them in a combo and say "$60 each or $118.99 for both! Great deal!"

If they do happen to work something out, I'll tip my hat to them, but I'm doubting it.

Same. I would actually really like to buy for both consoles so we'll see what they offer for price point but I'll probably end up waiting for a price drop on one of them.
