Question What are George Lucas views on the format war?

Has he commented on the format war at all or given an indication on any of his films getting released?

No, but if DVD was any indication on when he was gonna come on board, we have a long ass wait for SW. Let's hope not.

I cannot see why he would not want his films released in Hi-Def

well since Star Wars is from Fox they will be Blu-ray exclusive so George might end up being a Blu-Ray fan if he sees how well they sell and on Blu-Ray and to listen to it in high definition sound and picture

But i wonder if he has instructed Fox, like Spielberg has instructed paramount and universal, not to release his films?

George likes seeing and hearing the best possible picture and sound quality. We know that for a fact. THX and digital theaters.

I don't believe we'll have to wait as long for SW on Blu as we did with DVD.

Although he may want to take full advantage of the extras. So that may take some time but I believe the films already exist in a pristine digital form.

We have two things going for us in this respect. SW franchise is under Fox which is a BR exclusive studio. Second, Hes good friends with a Blu-ray supporter in Spielberg.

He also owns 2.5% of Close Encounters... so if lots of people buy that, he'll start making money from Blu-ray...

The bet (Lucas bet Spielberg that CE3K would beat Star Wars) was an exchange, wasn't it? So, Spielberg also owns 2.5% of Star Wars?

Ah BFF.

Hey Guys, I am new to blu-ray.com forums but have been visiting the site since I first bought my PS3 back in April.

Its true that Lucas is a huge fan of great PQ and AQ if you remember back he released on laserdisc for that very reason. Starwars launch for DVD was delayed primarily because of timing issues and because of the failure of laserdiscs.

Fox is pro BD and Lucas is pro quality if you ask me its a match made in heaven. more of a when than an if.

I'm pretty sure Rick Makcullum (his producer) said that the films will not come out until it's more clear who the winner is....

Also, I think there was a hint he made that they believed HDM may not succeed and downloads would probably be the next gen format....

Sorry - to lazy to find the quote but I'm sure it's been posted here and at theForce.net.

yes you are totally right I too read somewhere about digital downloads.

I recall someone here quickly stomping on any though of Digital downloads saying it wasn't even a consideration but apparently Lucas thinks so.

Which is why I believe if there is money to be made in Physical media first we may get it sooner than we did with DVD.

Sorry, but
Lucas needs to put his balls together, and should stand behind his own opinion in the format war....

but do something George!!!!

If Star Wars was released on Blu Ray it would help force (no pun intended) a winner since, I believe, the movies would move quite a few players/PS3's.

C'mon Lucas, please!
