Blu-ray Samurai

After watching a number of movies on BD, some BD25, some BD50, I certainly am starting to notice some difference in PQ. A notable mention is Fantastic Four (BD25), and FF4: ROTSS (BD50).
While the former is still HD and roughly 20Mb bit rates, the latter is 30Mb or better. I didn't buy Planet of Apes for that reason when I saw it was on BD25. While the price is lower on the single disc, I think I would much rather pay the extra money for the dual layer and have a better long term investment. How do you feel about it? |

Same with Edward Scissorhands (and using mpeg2). From what I've tested, it still looks pretty good. Not the best update for an older movie, but still a major improvement over the DVD. My one complaint is the sound, but because the score was recorded on a cassette, I think the sound is somewhat limited..

I buy the BD25's as well, but the way I see it is if I like the movie I'll buy it to fight the format war, I realize that in 5 year it'll be seen as the early DVD's we'll look at it as if it were crap, then I can buy the good remastered version for $15 it's an investment at this stage nothing more.
considering that Warner does both format and just give us the HD-dvd specs, we can't really hold quality perfectly, if we refuse to buy from warner because they cheap out on our format, they they may go HD-DVD exclusive, that why I'm pushing buy now regret slightly and buy the remastered version later :P |

I fully agree with this: last year despite all the negative feedback about The Fifth Element I still bought it becuase I loved the movie. Well in this case it did really pay off: now I got the remastered BD50 release copy courtesy of Sony.

It's still on my wishlist, just not near the top. Besides, I have no problem if the movie is about 90 minutes on a BD25 and takes advantage of the whole space. I would rather not long to rebuy it a few years down the road. You have my money, if you want me to buy more, give me something better NOW, not later.

I don't usually look if its 25 or 50. I go right to the type of audio on the disk.
