Thumbs up BD50 only for me...

After watching a number of movies on BD, some BD25, some BD50, I certainly am starting to notice some difference in PQ. A notable mention is Fantastic Four (BD25), and FF4: ROTSS (BD50).

While the former is still HD and roughly 20Mb bit rates, the latter is 30Mb or better. I didn't buy Planet of Apes for that reason when I saw it was on BD25.

While the price is lower on the single disc, I think I would much rather pay the extra money for the dual layer and have a better long term investment.

How do you feel about it?

If there is a movie that I want on blu-ray, I buy it. I don't get that wrapped up in it. To each his own.

I don't usually mind if it's BD25 or 50, though I do notice it in the specs when I buy it... I bought Robocop today and noticed it was BD25, hopefully this won't limit it much.

Same with Edward Scissorhands (and using mpeg2). From what I've tested, it still looks pretty good. Not the best update for an older movie, but still a major improvement over the DVD. My one complaint is the sound, but because the score was recorded on a cassette, I think the sound is somewhat limited..

I have never looked to see whether they were 25's or 50's but I do check to make sure it has uncompressed audio and no matter the title, if it's 7.1ch sound then its an automatic buy.

I buy the BD25's as well, but the way I see it is if I like the movie I'll buy it to fight the format war, I realize that in 5 year it'll be seen as the early DVD's we'll look at it as if it were crap, then I can buy the good remastered version for $15 it's an investment at this stage nothing more.

considering that Warner does both format and just give us the HD-dvd specs, we can't really hold quality perfectly, if we refuse to buy from warner because they cheap out on our format, they they may go HD-DVD exclusive, that why I'm pushing buy now regret slightly and buy the remastered version later :P

Good to know, I am hoping the audio is good, though unfortunately it's DTS-HD, which I can't fully take advantage of yet. GRRR! I hope that PS3 firmware update is coming soon...

I fully agree with this: last year despite all the negative feedback about The Fifth Element I still bought it becuase I loved the movie. Well in this case it did really pay off: now I got the remastered BD50 release copy courtesy of Sony.

If I want a movie and it's on Blu Ray then that's enough for me.

It's still on my wishlist, just not near the top. Besides, I have no problem if the movie is about 90 minutes on a BD25 and takes advantage of the whole space. I would rather not long to rebuy it a few years down the road. You have my money, if you want me to buy more, give me something better NOW, not later.

I notice when its BD-25 and BD-50 but it doesnt stop me from purchasing... I buy what I want. Remastered versions will be purchased as the come out just like they were when DVD did the same thing. No worries from my side of the camp!

I hear you guys, I really do. I mean, ultimately, a BD25 won't litterally STOP me from buying, but it will go on my second choices list.

After all, a BD25 is just a breath away from HD-DVD30, and who in their right mind wants that?

I don't usually look if its 25 or 50. I go right to the type of audio on the disk.
