China Region C blu-ray and CHBD (BD-15) update (Mainland China releases)

Hi there,

This is FeiLong and I used to have a R6 DVD update in another forum. That one is the only source in English language that deals with R6 DVDs.

By chance, I find this forum and would like to start a thread similar to the R6 thread in that forum. Update regularly, as it is very difficult for you to get info in English about Region C BD and CBHD (BD-15) on the Internet.

Cheers
FL

There are TWO types of Blu-ray discs in China.
International Blu-ray and CBHD.

CBHD is a format for China market. The first CBHD (Harry Potter from CAV Warner) is already out.
Pricing for CBHD is less than US$10 each while International Blu-ray are market at around US$20 at the moment.
Here is a recent release, T3

Most of the Blu-ray discs in China are Sony Pictures titles.
Disney blu-ray will be available this month.
Warner has released about 5 blu-ray discs, include The Island, recently.

Welcome to the forum Fei!

Once we get a few more entries in this thread, we will probably make it a sticky so that everyone could benefit from your announcements.

i don't know yet because the players just out recently and very few people own one. What i've heard is that, a CBHD disc is compatible with DVD players but I have to confirm that later.

By the way, the title "CHBD" should be "CBHD" but I couldn't edit the title.

CBHD is not Blu-ray based, but China's implementation of HD DVD. Notice how the Shinco is almost identical to a Toshiba A3.

You should probably be posting about this in the HD DVD forums, although a new forum would be best since although it is HD DVD-based, the codecs used are not compatible with existing HD DVD players.

So, CBHD is like the redheaded stepchild of Blu-Ray? Like how VCD is the redheaded stepchild of DVD?

Actually, VideoCD came way before DVD so VCD is more of the first cousin thrice removed.
