I thought it was just okay. Some cool visuals but it felt kinda plotless and I didn't like the ending. It was alright though.

I reviewed this in another thread, here's what I wrote...

'The Bad Batch'

This film takes place in a desert wasteland that functions as a prison where society's undesirables are dumped and left to fend for themselves. I was hoping for something as entertaining and bizarre as 'Dead End Drive In' or 'Motorama', both of which (along with 'Mad Max') I'm guessing were influences on this film.

It takes a very long time for anything resembling a plot to form, which would be fine if there were at least interesting character interactions and amusing scenes. Sadly, the film is made up of way too many long sequences that are just long tracking shots of a character wandering through the various settings while some funky song plays. Sometimes these types of sequences even arrive almost back to back. These types of sequences provide the filmmaker opportunity to show off the worlds they've constructed and their taste in music. Wes Anderson does this sort of thing a lot. These types of sequences can be fine, but they need to be used sparingly because they can drag a movie down. And that's exactly what happens here.

Amirpour has built some convincingly post-apocalyptic junkyard sets and filled them with some dedicated freaks, but the movie is too much setting and not enough character or plot for me. Thankfully it gets better as it goes along and finishes relatively strong. Keanu is put to good use, and Jim Carrey is fun in his small role. The two leads don't have the chemistry necessary to sell what they're handed, which is a bit of a problem.

All and all, despite effectively building an immersive and convincing setting and some fun supporting performances, I would say this film is not worth watching.

This kind of post-apocalyptic setting has been seen before and in films that were far more compelling. Been there, done that, essentially. The leads in this weren't interesting enough to sustain a short film, never mind a 2-hour feature, and as for the plot, who cares? As someone who was underwhelmed by Amirpour's A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, I can't say this sophomore effort being a pretentious drag surprised me in the slightest.

This movie was soooo boring. Nothing happens in it. NOTHING! It was terrible.
