Default Help Me Spend ~$500...Oppo 93 or Axiom Audio QS8s

So I'm currently upgrading my home theater. I just did my Axiom audio center channel as my polk center was too small for the room. But the upgrade bug has still got a hold of me. I'm think one of my next to pieces should either be the oppo 93 or the axiom audio QS8s surrounds.
QS8s = $582 vs oppo 93 at $500.

i think either can make a nice upgrade addition to the current setup...I'm currently using my PS3 and my bluray player since my old phat ps3 just YLOD...so i had to bring up my panny 210 so we can have a bluray player in the family room.

dunno if i can push but maybe a panny 310 + QS8s but i couldn't go oppo and QS8s.

panny 310 has been making some good noise but the oppo continues to be the pinnacle of bluray performance bang for buck player. so i dunno if i wait.

do option a) either QS8s or the oppo 93.
option b) QS8s and Panny 310
option c) eventually get both QS8s and oppo 93 option c will be a while to aquire both.

ideas...or suggestions?

Skip both and start saving up for the Oppo 95.

Since you have the upgrade bug and you have been on this site for a while, then you should know to go with "C". You will end up wishing you had just gotten what you wanted, instead of "settling." This will actually help you save more money in the long run when you would sell the 310 to get the 93 at a later date. Just my 2 lil' pieces of copper.....

I have both an Oppo 93 and Axiom QS8's.

While they are both great additions to my HT, the Oppo 93 was a jaw dropping wow moment when I plugged it in and played my first BluRay.

Go for the 93 and try to get QS8's via auction on Axiom....

Hi b00st! I agree with option C; however, I'd recommend getting the Axiom's first. From what I've read of their performance, you'll get immediate return on that investment. I love my Oppo 83, but that device by itself doesn't outperform the difference you'd experience with the QS8's.

Just my 2 cents too

Do you have the matching FL and FR speakers to the center channel you just got? If not, I'd skip both and start saving for the FL and FR speakers.

Get the Oppo now, save up for the surrounds down the road, as it sounds like you are doing. However the very next thing I'd suggest that you do is get the FR/FL speakers to match the center channel. It looks like youre going to do that with tax money, so Congrats, hopefully that'll be done soon also. Get the surrounds last. Are you going for the M80s or M60s?

M80s

i'll be honest...i think the DCMs hang very well...they are actually over bearing...not so much bright. just powerful at all volume levels. so audyssey did its eq'ing...i felt it was a little too soft on my center so i had to make an adjustment there. i think currently there is a great balance....once i get my sub back. DCMs are more musically inclined as there where in a 2ch room. but i needed something big to fill and they do it with easy. my room is 34ft by 24ft wide.

hoping to also do garage floor with epoxy...this time doing it right with the good stuff.

and pay off the rest of the car.

and save half. lets just see how much i get back for overpaying this year. i pay monthly and at the end of each quarter is a bigger hike so i'm expecting something big back.

My neighbor has DCMs. They are good for a large room. I call them party house speakers. They aren't bright you have that right, musical enough. He has an OLD Onkyo powering them. They don't seem the most detailed, but he only uses them for radio play, but when he has them on in the house, they sound like they could be in my house.

I have never heard any Axiom speakers. I hope they fill your room the way you want them too. That is a huge room. Id say you need a 7.2 setup at least. 9.4 might be even better.

it was a compromise....i wanted the paradigm cc690 but after the house and all the other stuff. axiom audio was my next choice. the center is doing a kick ass job right now. those M80s will do great for my movies and gaming. prolly sound decent enough for music once the a5-350 is brought back into play. very efficient speakers. i play on running 7.1. the basement is run for it.

i plan on using aperion audio for in in ceiling speakers for my 7.1 completion. http://www.aperionaudio.com/product/...86,31,828.aspx cable is run to the 2 spots i plan on putting them and that will round out my system. but the axiom center from my polk csi3 was a huge improvement. and the polk upstairs in the family is a great addition. just enough for the room. other than my eD sub tearing on the spider...i have no complaints. the XPA-5 at -20db is very very nice...the speakers are loving it. i do want to round it out to 7.1...contemplated on adding the 9.1...some front heights but that will depend on the screen and if i keep my 16:9 or turn to scope and go wider.

honestly the 1 eD sub....does so much damage...i don't get to see full potential. the only advantage to the dual or more is to fill the null and void spots. but the sub is positioned in such a way that the bass is concentrated in the seating area...both levels. which is really the only part i care about. front right corner of the screen wall by the door is like thunder on low volume and ridiculous on high volume. but it is focused at the seating. i had the sub on a rolling furniture mover...like a dolly. and moved it around till i was pleased with the bass response in the seating area. surprisingly or not...the front fire from the front stage was no good at all. the a5-350 gives off more than i need or am "allowed" to use. and since all 5 seats have very ample bass...i'm not worried about an additional sub.

oppo 93 acquired.

had a friend text me asking if i wanted to buy his...he wants the 95 now. i said perfect timing cuz i was going to order one for my bday. so i get a discount and he gets a partial pay towards the 95. win win for both of us.

since i got it for cheap....QS8s will not be far behind at all.
