Exclamation The Blu-ray.com Community Top 20 Films of 2011 (Please Read First Post)

Our 2010 top list was a big success, so here we go again. Post your list of your 20 favorite films that were released in 2011.

Each of the films will receive a certain amount of points based on how you rank them. We're going to do the points a bit different this time, so that your rankings are more prevalent:

1. 20 Points
2. 19 Points
3. 18 Points
4. 17 Points
5. 16 Points
.....
16. 5 Points
17. 4 Points
18. 3 Points
19. 2 Points
20. 1 Point

So please make sure you rank all your films from most favorite and down. Don't put them in random order!

The final deadline will be February 12, 2012 - 12am Pacific Time. That gives us over a month and a half to watch all the films you still want to see and update your lists.

RULES
1. How to determine if a film is eligible - A film must have been released either limited, wide, or straight-to-dvd (which ever comes first) in the United States in 2011. This does not include film festivals or released internationally. It may be hard to determine if some films were released in 2011 or not, so that's what the strict rules on this are for.

Use the release dates on imdb if you are unsure if it's eligible. For example, I Saw the Devil was released in some countries in 2010, but did not get a limited release in the U.S. until March 4th, 2011. So that film will be eligible.

2. Please only make one list - Make only one list on this thread. However, you are free to update and change your original post as often as you'd like until the deadline. It will make tallying very hard if there are multiple lists from one person. Just find your original post and click 'Edit' to make your changes.

New rule added 1/8/12: 3. How lists with less than 20 films will be counted - We had a lot of debate about this, so here is the compromise. You are free to post as many films up to 20 as you wish (even 1 if that's all you want to post). However, if you post less than 10 films, your list will be pushed down to position 10. So your #1 will be worth 11 points instead of the full 20, #2 worth 10, and so on. This is to encourage everyone to post as many films as possible. If you post between 10 and 20 films, they will be worth the full points as listed at the top of this post. Hope this makes everyone happy and keeps it as fair as possible!

I honestly don't like that the eligibility is based on US release. It should be what is released in 2011 period. Would sure like to put Sunny on my list.

3. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
4. Captain America
5. Kung Fu Panda 2

Yeah but if that were the case, then 13 Assassins, I Saw the Devil, and The Debt all from your list wouldn't be eligible. It's just the easiest way to do it, in my opinion. Otherwise there would be films that were released in late 2010 only at a film festival none of us have attended, or in a country most of us don't live in, and then it would have no chance of making it on both the 2010 or 2011 list.

Also, I'm not sure what film you're talking about when you say Sunny, but if it's this one, then it is eligible.

Finally a point system that makes sense to me. I always didn't understand why you made the last 5 to be worth the same. But I always appreciated the list. Thank you and keep this new point system

My list so far that I saw in theater. So it's mostly big budget blockbuster movies. I usually save the small award worthy movies until it's released on blu-ray, while spending money on theater that are more hyped up & big budget ones that can benefit from big screen and sound. So my list may drastically differ by the end.

01. Drive
02. Crazy Stupid Love
03. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
04. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
05. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
06. X-Men: First Class
07. Captain America: the First Avenger
08. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
09. Help
10. Bridesmaids
11. Hanna
12. Hugo
13. Adventures of Tintin
14. Thor
15. Fast Five
16. Sherlock Holmes:A Game of Shadows
17. Source Code
18. Kung Fu Panda 2
19. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
20. Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Wouldn't it be more fun to not publicly post the lists? More of a surprise? Just a suggestion.

Also, I can't wait to participate in this! But I still have a bunch of movies to see.

Hmm, thats odd. I followed that one, and never heard of it being released over here. Good to know though, I'll add that one.

As for those other three, I would have been fine with it if they weren't eligible, but since they are, I can't just leave them off my list, since they are favorites regardless, especially 13 Assassins.
