I know that it's going to be difficult to help me much because as of right now, I don't have any pictures of my setup. Overall, I am very happy with what I've done with limited space and a medium budget. I started with a HTiB a few years ago that I got on the cheap when Circuit City was liquidating. When I decided to upgrade, I started with a Subwoofer. I then realized it wasn't compatible with the HTiB "receiver" and went out and bought a real receiver. Then some Polk Monitor and center channel speakers to go with it. I decided to just take the mediocre speakers I had from the 5.1 HTiB and turn them into my side and rear speakers. It actually works fairly well, except for my rear speakers. I'll upload pics when I get a chance, but I don't have a dedicated room for my HT at the moment, it's just in my living room. Here's how I have it laid out (Again, pics will be coming)
I have a 15x27 living room. Across the 15 foot wall, I have the TV set up. I actually have a sectional couch that is set up like an L, with the optimal viewing area being about 10 feet right in front of the screen. I used the sectional to help hide the cords for the side speakers, and they are on each side of the couch. The rear speakers is where I am having difficulty. I have almost 17 feet behind the couch in which to work, but I can't just plop the speakers in the middle of my living room floor, especially because I have 2 young kids running around. Right now I have the rears facing each other just screwed into the walls, but they aren't facing the viewer so most of the stuff behind me gets lost. I know I can tweak the volume of those speakers, but hopefully that's not the best solution, because they still aren't coming at me at the correct angle. The next logical advice would be to mount them from the ceiling, but the living room has a 20 something foot high vaulted ceiling, so that's not a realistic possibility either. Pics are coming, but anyone have any advice in the meantime from the description? I'm thinking about changing them from mounted on the side walls to mounted on the rear wall, but like I said, then you're talking about 15 feet away from the viewer, and these are small bookshelf speakers. |
